This is most probably a bug in the gltf pr, and is not intentional. Will look into it.

I can't seem to be able to reproduce the flickering effect. I changed for example the first light of the default dash9.eng, which is Type ( 1 ), from Headlight ( 3 ) to Headlight ( 1 ), but I see a solid light cone. What else should I change for getting that effect? Or can someone give a light configuration that I can just paste into the dash9's eng file for reproduction?

I have been seeing flickering with this sphere of lights setup:

		Light (
			Comment ( Sphere of lights Dim )
			Type		( 1 )
			Conditions	(
				Headlight ( 1 )
				Unit ( 2 )
			)
			FadeIn	( 0.5 )
			FadeOut	( 0.5 )
			States	(	1
				State	(
					LightColour ( ffFFCC94 )
					Radius ( 75 )
					Angle ( 15 )
					Position ( 0.0 2.478 10.351 )
				)
			)
		)
		Light (
			Comment ( Sphere of lights Dim )
			Type		( 1 )
			Conditions	(
				Headlight ( 2 )
				Unit ( 2 )
			)
			FadeIn	( 0.5 )
			FadeOut	( 0.5 )
			States	(	1
				State	(
					LightColour ( ffFFCC94 )
					Radius ( 75 )
					Angle ( 15 )
					Position ( 0.0 2.478 10.351 )
				)
			)
		)
		Light	(
			comment( Sphere of Lights Bright)
			Type		( 1 )
			Conditions	(
				Headlight ( 3 )
				Unit ( 2 )

			FadeIn	( 0.5 )
			FadeOut	( 0.5 )

					Radius ( 75 )
					Angle ( 25 )
					Position ( 0.0 2.478 10.351 )
				)
			)
		)

Though I've also found getting it to happen without editing anything is as simple as starting up a session, turning the lights on, saving the game, then quitting and loading the save.

Hi Peter,

Attached is an .ENG of my locomotive. Just tested in 2023-11-14, all Sphere lights have a "flickering effect".
Perhaps a shorter distance (radius) is more visible than greater distances?
Attached File  275118_LN.zip (4.37K)

But not only is the "flickering effect" not attractive, but also the type of the new light cone. It gives an exaggerated light effect and is not dimmable and does not spread out softly.
IOW, instead of the effect of a "light bulb" it looks like an 8000W bulb. Compare this with an older release, that is the light effect you see in reality.

Greetings, Roger

For some odd reason I still cannot reproduce the flickering effect. :-( Would it be possible for you to modify one of the original MSTS eng files, e.g. the dash9.eng or any other of those you like, and specifying an original MSTS route path where you can see the effect on your computer? If you attached the modified .eng file, then I could start the RunActivity with the same command line parameter as yours, like:

RunActivity.exe -start -explorer "C:\Devel\MSTS\ROUTES\USA2\PATHS\tut6path.pat" "dash9" 22:00 1 0

My 70-tonner has the flickering problem when it's first loaded (the front headlight loads in a dim state). The flickering stops when switching to a different headlight brightness. It's in the library here if you want to download it and see if the flickering problem presents for you.

Hi Peter,

See attachment, the standard MSTS DASH9.eng used with the light settings.
This gives the same effect, "flickering" and light is not dimmed. (tested in 2023-11-14)
The two pictures also give the effect that the light keeps going "on/off", one moment of a screenshot it is dark, in another moment you see the Sphere light.
(tested in explorer mode, should this still have an effect/reason?)

Greetings, Roger

Hi Peter,

Just to be sure, the 3 examples per old and new releases of the Sphere lights.
As already mentioned, not only the 'flickering' effect, but also the change in the non-dimmed light effect (and "light spread".)
(tested between 2023-09-29 and 2023-11-14)

Roger, thanks, it worked! :) And fixed. Also halved the intensity.
