The new cab, inside and out, still a WIP.

Due to the compound curvature of the cab ceiling, I couldn't get the longitudinal planks texture right....so, putting my thinking cap on, I decided I'd plank the ceiling with individual (textured) planks....problem solved for the cost of a minor number of polys. Pic later.

It didn't go without a few hiccups, but the results were worth it.

Here is the first version of the cab's external artwork. Working with black is nightmarish, so I use a very dark gray colour instead. The K37 cab is a mess, plenty of dinks and dimples where the rivet heads are. Thats what I'm trying to replicate.

The secret, folks, to effective artwork - is light and shadow, in all it's variations. You attempt to fool the eye into believing something that's only halfway true. http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/pleasantry.gif

Having said that....I tweaked the firebox rivets and staybolts, with this result.....done in Paint.NET. Compare with the previous pic. I also tweaked the smoke box textures, which I'll show in another pic soon.

Paint.NET has a wonderful suite of useful tools and effects.

Herb, if you've torn yourself away from the RGS, what 'colour' should the catcher's stone guard be? I've given it this sort of rusted rustic look, is that right? Thanks.

Thanks to Herb's valued observations, I have tweaked the sand and steam domes. Tomorrow's work sked will include finishing the cab textures so I can process and test the latest iteration in OR.
