Capt.
Will this one have see through windows to show a fully detailed cab interior with all piping and gauges. That shouldn't take more than
20 or 30 thousand more poly's. LOL!
In any case. This looks to be a very fine model and a true showcase of your abilities as a modeler. Trully fine work!

Hi'ya Allen, thanks. I have the Quick Pic book on the K37 and the cab details shown in some of the photos have in total as many potential http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/search.gifpolys as the rest of the model combined!
Cheers Bazza
PS The above version works fine in the sim.

He he, I was wondering when you'd find that 'real' rivets aren't really necessary. LOL They're too flat.
I have a loose rule of thumb I use, if it's 'fist' size or larger, I'll make it in 3D otherwise, I use a texture.
Looking very good otherwise, Captn.

I use the thumb rule too, Rick, if it's thumbsize, add it. ;-)
There are times when adding a 3d detail saves a lot of sweating/swearing over artwork. For instance, it was easier to make the grateshaker (?) mechanism entirely 3d - using polys I saved by deleting the firebox rivets and staybolts.
Today's project, the metal sheathed cab? Now, I am going to rivet that.....
I've no experience with Normal Maps, but eventually, if OR supports it in time, I'll have to go back to skool. ;-)

I have my thinking cap on.....this cab presents somewhat of an artwork challenge. According to the great photos in the Quick Pics book on the K37, the cab is in fairly rough condition and the metal sheeting is quite dimpled around the rivet heads in many (most) places. I suppose, given the long hard life of these locomotives, you'd have to expect a battered appearance, not helped by years of rough and ready repairwork.
The trick is to learn some new artwork and squeeze the best out of my collection of art programs.
