This is OR K27 #454 with a K37 smokebox grafted on. All fittings on the smokebox are 3d. 55,686 polys, 48033 vertices. I could add the firebox staybolts next!!? ;-)

Sheesh! You're making round objects 'round'! That is something I've wanted to do.
Nice, very nice, Captn.
I think I'll do a little rebuilding of my Shays... Just to see how far MSTS will go.

just out of curiosity what is the difference between a k-27 and k-37 smoke box?
i can see the legnth difference, but it looks like your k-27 460.

Since the above render I rebuilt a couple of parts of the smoke box. One, the smokebox cylinder now has more polyfaces to make it 'rounder' looking front on. Two, I remodeled the curved handrail on front of the smokebox. For some reason it would not smooth properly and it was easier to replace the part.
TB, I confess I was somewhat puzzed about the diameter, which according to the plan is 1.558 (m?). However, after a phone discussion with Hadrians we worked out that this (inches) figure is for a 1/4" scale model of the loco smokebox diameter, but the prototype dimension is 74" o/d. A readjustment to the size is not a particularly time consuming problem to fix.
You have to read some plans carefully for what is there may not be what you expect.

The poor ol' K27 is undergoing an idenity crisis - she now has several more components similar to the K37. New detail: now includes, perhaps for the first time ever on a train simulator model steam locomotive, the boiler external cladding (in 3d) locks! Play Spot the Differences.... ;-) The model is now over 60 thousand polys and takes several minutes to process into the shape format.
