you can't do that on a laptop

there are external HDDs/SSDs with USB interface

Windows Defender didn't like it and deleted it, but I don't know why

most like, because file is too small, what looks suspicious for it.

It could be that Defender in Win 11 is less tolerant than that in Win10!
That's exactly what it is.

I don't (e.g. refuse to) use Windows 10 or 11, but on my system .hta files are handled by C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshta.exe. If you can get a hold of a copy of this file from an earlier operating system you may have laying around, you could have better luck. You may also try setting that file's properties to run always As Administrator, and/or in Compatibility mode.

The tool really needs to be re-writte from the ground up with a newer language/interface.
That's what I talked about above. I've "threatened" to do this for years, for personal use. The code in the .hta is plain text, so it should be fairly straightforward to convert to another language. But it would be best to have a blessing from the original developer as far as redistribution goes.

Must be a windows 11 problem or perhaps a WinZip unzipping

I opened up SFM after a very long time of not using it and right off I was asking myself why is there no column sort? Why does the list off files end too soon (in my case with some of the letter M files).

Is this the way it has always been?

Yes, that's the way it's always been.
I have a work folder I drag things to to work on.
***
From the SFM25 instructions dropdown.
Limit File List: By default, SFM25 will limit the file list to a maximum of 600 names. If this option is "unchecked", SFM25 will not limit the file list. Disabling "Limit File List" may result in very slow execution and warning or error messages. Your computer may become unresponsive or crash completely. It is better to run SFM25 on shape files in a working folder and not directly on a route installation.

It hasn't worked on my shapes folder in years.

Randy

Edit: I have 10673 shapes in the folder but SFM25 won't show the last 1271 lines. It cuts off at US2SmlPrefab1.s.

That's exactly what I've meant.
And Thank You, Randy, for a good tip.
(though, I haven't encountered crashes yet, happily)

Thank you all for the explanation. I'm off to move files to a work folder.

Thanks for that version of shape file manager, i think if possible we should add it to the download library here as Steam4Me is no longer offering downloads of some of the essential files.

it worked fine for me to install on Windows 10. You may have to turn off the security system to get it to install. I had no issues.
