It looks to me, as if the upper "driver" is geared to the cog wheel. Swiss clock work for sure.

I can make out exactly what's what in that picture and it's not as complicated as it looks. The lower set of running gear is for when running on normal "adhesion" rail, the top set is for the cograck mechanism. The two sets of cylinders have independent throttles and I believe the cylinder diameters are the same so the power output is the same if not more since the cograck drive is geared down. The rack drive doesn't rely on adhesion so it only needs the single wheel.
A model of a similar loco:

During WW2, the austrians had a very modern rack loco that was so powerful it would rip out the rack rail!!!

Cool, Rod! Oh, I forgot about the traction element. I'm going to have to do that! My instance of RW and Steam hasn't been working since after this session, for some reason.

Hi Folks,
INCREDIBLE PIX - WOW !!!
Hi Wayne,
You've released this route ? If so - I'll be loading up RW again this weekend... Where could I find your route - is it on Steam ???
Any steam locomotive recommendations ?
Thanks...
Regards,
Scott

I uploaded the route to the Railworks library here:
http://railworksamer...oute-collection
Its still a bit of a work in progress. I am still trying to decide what to do about steam loco's. Something light I think, since the route is laid with 100 pound rail - :-)

Hi Wayne,
Thanks so much for you efforts and sharing - I've been amazed since you started posting this fabulous route...
Kind of reminds me of the Yosemite Valley a bit (with more water) - funny Marc Nelson and I had chatted about the YV a couple times as he had a genuine interest in making it at one time (a long time ago)…
Been running Derek's mighty fine CBQ 4-6-0 a great deal in ORTS lately - I'll see if I can find something in that range for RW... A 10 Wheeler, Mogul, or Prairie would be perfect...
:sign_thanks:
NOTE: Just noticed your Prairie Saddle Tanker - again - posted on the previous page - PERFECT...
:)
Regards,
Scott
