Ah, good point! I just happen to be in route editor now, so I'll make it so!

Haha! http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/lol.gif Thanks for the heads-up...that bridge shadow really does make a difference! Actually, it looks like they all had dynamic shadows enabled already, with the exception of that one. Thought I'd slap on an updated bridge deck texture while I was at it. This is still very much a flat texture/deck, but a little creative shading goes a long way to add depth. This shot from the San Onofre Creek bridge, about a mile south of the last few shots...

Please no contraband MSTS today. :rofl2:

But seriously, it's very well done.

excellent work thanks for sharing and thanks for the nice words about my art

when you do those dark bushes ..which are excellent and very typical they grow in a semi pattern. they tend to clump i wont give more instruction that that but if you put several near each other , and then spaces...and they also grow both on the side of hills and in the lower areas....with a few on the top of hills. that may help with the distribtion.
in California because there is o little vegetation. the patterns of it really make a big difference for the realism.

by the way, have you put in any orange or citus groves with Eucalytu wind breaks? that is VERY Californnia, there arent many left butt there are a few, around San Luis Obispo esp. used to be a lot down in the southern part of LA and there were some still in the Irvine Ranch area the train goes past...but i havent been out there in years.
you are doing great.

keep it up

chris

I think Jeff did a fairly good job with the vegetation placement (especially in the valleys and lower areas) given the limitations of MSTS. Unfortunately, it's those very limitations which cause the bushes (most of which are placed automatically via forest regions) to be spread-out evenly, rather than "clumping" in a more realistic manner, so sadly, there's not much that can be done in MSTS. As for Open Rails, I recall some work being done a couple years ago to get the forest regions to clump more realistically, which looked good, but I think they reverted those changes due to compatibility issues and trees being placed in incorrect areas. If they ever revisit that effort, I'm sure it'll make a quite a difference with this and other routes in the future.

There are already a few citrus groves already in place on the route, which I think reflect what's still there in reality. (Sadly, as you mentioned, there's not much citrus left these days, which is getting to be the case here in Florida as well, due to the various diseases wreaking havoc in the groves). I don't recall if they have the Eucalyptus wind breaks (which I also remember from where I grew up in Northern California), so I'll need to a quick once-over and put some in if they're not already there.

I will be out in that area on Sunday on my way home from Arizona. Looking really nice and really looks like a whole new route. If there is anyway I can help you out (Photo-wise) let me know.

It's been a little while since I've posted, but I'm still plugging away! Here are a few shots from the north end of Oceanside...

Paul, Absolutely stunning! There is no comparison between the original and your update. This route should be $30 dollars or more when it is complete. It's simply that good.

The only thing that would make it even better would be a complete overhaul of the roads and tracks using exclusively Scale Rail/ Scale Roads.

I know it is the wrong route and time period. But, I just can't get this song out of my head when I see these screenshots. Song
