OK guys, I'll give it a go! Might be a while, as I'm gonna want to do this on a day when I can sit with my computer and keep an eye on it throughout, and it may be a few days until I have a free couple of hours.

Bernie's installing MSTS to get the proper registry entries and then he will be renaming the install folder effectively deleting it so he can use his current folder. It cuts down on the time by a large amount and eliminates any possibility of a failed install due to disk errors if the second dick is compromised in any way.
Otherwise known as down and dirty, or if you prefer quick and easy.
I have a full generic MSTS install somewhere on my system(s). Just in case I need to install a route using a runme.bat but I can't remember the last time I actually had to use it.

Happy New Year everybody! :lol:

Finally got the MSTS run and so forth; I did make one change to the instructions, at the risk of screwing everything up. Rather than mess with the desktop icons, I moved them to a temporary folder, and after installing/removing the fresh MSTS install and renaming my old one again, I just deleted the new desktop icon and put the new ones back on my desktop. They work though; MSTS came up fine.

RR, however... well, not so much. <_< I didn't get the "380"error, but instead got this:

That's odd, given the trouble I went through to install an old version of Java for RR. As show below, it's still there, too...

Hi Bernie,
Have you copied the contents of the TSUtils folder (in the Route-Riter folder) into a new folder (you create it) called classes in the JRE.8.0_65 folder? I'm assuming that is the version in use - if you're not sure, create a classes folder in the jre7 folder and copy the same data into it.

I don't know the purpose of the "bump" :shok: :shok:

There is no problem with getting Route_Riter and Java playing together - in fact, today I've done it on a Win 10 64bit PC and an old XP SP3 32-bit model as part of testing a new utility. :censored2:
Just follow the instructions EXACTLY and you should be OK :)

A "bump" is just that; a little nudge to keep a thread visible near the top of recently updated threads on the main ET page. I don't like using them, but sometimes they are useful if you've updated a thread after a while and need to get it seen (especially if many people aren't watching the thread).

I have two Java folders: the old Java 7 folder and the newest version (jre1.8.0_66). Both have classes folders with the contents of the TSUtils folder in them. :huh:

Hello Bernie, been following the thread, here are some screen grabs of what the Java install should look like...just for your visual reference.

I have updated to java version jre1.8.0_66 ... the other folders in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java are empty, except for the remaining classes folder which the uninstall does not remove.

You should be able to perform the TsUtil version test in Route Riter to determine if Route Riter is finding your java install.
