File Name: MSTS / ORTS Utility -- FFEDIT_Sub v1.2
File Submitter: slipperman
File Submitted: 19 Mar 2021
File Updated: 10 May 2023
File Category: Computer Utilities
A replacement for FFEDITc_unicode.exe plus a free-standing file compressor/uncompressor.
MSTS doesn't have to be installed, but in the absence of a Registry entry, a dummy is created.
INSTALLATION
Unpack the zip file to a temporary folder. then follow the details contained in FFEDIT_Sub Installation Readme.txt.
Please see the full readme included in the installation folder.
The program can be used under Win 7, 8/8.1 and 10. It should also work under Windows XP, if .Net Framework v4 is installed.
This version includes copies of some system files which may be missing from the user's installation.
If files are missing, the program closes tidily. An updated full readme is included.

The documentation says it will compress files in the \tiles directory. All or only some file extensions?
Is it safe to specify the same folder for both source and target?

Hi Dave,
No Sir!
The program will display an error message, and not continue, if you specify the same folder for source and target.
Only file types .s, .t and .w will be processed. They can be in any folder.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi All,
I offer my apologies to those who have downloaded and installed FFEDIT_Sub v1.0 and received a system error message, particularly when pressing the QUIT button.
v1.1 (fixed, hopefully!) has been submitted to the library and is awaiting approval.
The functions of v1.0 weren't compromised in any way so, if you've not seen any error messages, you may continue using it with confidence!
The reason (if anybody's interested!) was that, when pressing "QUIT", the program writes its installation location into the Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Ged's-Utilities\FFEDIT_Sub. Unfortunately, if you'd never installed MSTS_ActMan, MSTS_Check, MSTS_Swap or sms_Checker, there is no such key as "Ged's-Utilities", which is where it all fell apart!!
Cheers,
Ged

Hello.
Could You assist me, please?
I've tried to use this pack for working with SFM 2.5 without MSTS installed, on w10 system. For that, I've renamed program to FFEditC_unicode. During uncompression operation, I receive an error message, that some *.ocx file (can't recall it's name now) or some of it's dependencies is not registered or missing.
How can that be fixed?

Hi Weter,
Apologies for the rather late response.
FFEDIT_Sub uses comp.exe and decomp.exe, written by Martyn T. Griffin, but I've not seen such an error message.
If it's trainlib.ocx, please see the IMPORTANT section in the readme. Otherwise, it may help if you could say which .ocx file is causing the problem.
Also, see the NOTES for use with Shape File Manager (SFM) if MSTS is not available paragraph in the same document.
Cheers,
Ged

Hello.
Sure, it's not trainlib.ocx. I have read red-written IMPORTANT paragraph.
I'll see the dialog, telling about that error again, and report the file's name.
Readme didn't show me an answer so far.
And that file, which causes problem, IS present in windows\syswow64 subdir. I've checked that.
Thanks for care, I'll write more details later.

That is COMDLG32.OCX
Error is issued by DeComp.exe
It is said, it, or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: file is missing or invalid

Hi Weter,
COMDLG32.OCX is installed by several 'older' utilities - mine is in C:\Windows\SysWow64
If yours is there, then it may need to be registered - see here :
https://appuals.com/...ror-on-windows/
if not, I've attached a copy of mine, which you may need to register.
Happy New Year :)
Cheers,
Ged

Hello and Happy New Year, GED!
Thanks for reply.
It is there, so might be not registered.
See

Thanks:
registering did help.
how can I stop prompting to run uncompress/compress programs
(also TGATool2), without changing user control?

Hi Weter,
If I understand you correctly, you could try setting the Properties of each .exe file to "Run this program as an administrator".
Cheers,
Ged
