Jovert Quote I don't follow what you're saying here. If you're talking about what TGATools2 refers to as "Alpha" and "Trans" export modes, they're mutually exclusive.

What I am referring to is the 4 export modes of TGATools2A . If the original file has been saved with the "-trans" export option I just open it again and export with the "alpha" option. It seems to help quite a lot on my setup. Does not cure the problem completely but reduces the glittering considerably.

Update: I did a thorough check on all my video settings. Changing options there did nothing that stopped the flashing. I used a common starting point for an activity where I know that flashing occurs, so that each adjustment that I made was looking at the same screen point. What did stop the flashing, at least in my test (I haven't had a chance to run the activity for awhile to see if the flashing occurs elsewhere), is turning off model instancing. The other thing that I noticed with model instancing turned on is that the flashing does not begin until one is about 10-15 seconds into the activity. That occurred consistently. That might be of some significance.

So to us who haven't had time to tinker with all the settings in OR, what does Model Instancing actually do... other then to get some things to flicker?

Paul :-)

Can't figure that out myself unfortunately.

Taken from the manual

6.3.4 Model instancing
When the option is checked, in cases where multiple instances of the same object have to be drawn, only a single draw call is sent to the GPU. This means lower CPU load. It is suggested to always check this option.

Like others here I have found that using this does cause excessive flickering of some scenery items. I have not bothered to investigate why yet, just keeping the option turned off for now.

Hi All,

I unchecked the Instancing and that was the cause of the vegetation and water layers flickering... both have stopped on the DAR and I would suspect it would stop on the TIR route as well.

It is very effective in reducing CPU usage (and increasing fps dramatically) on some routes. However, I've noticed it does cause some scenery items to flicker. I leave the option checked because the advantages (to me) outweigh the flickering of some scenery items.

It will be very much a "horses for courses" situation. Obviously there is a trade-off between cpu/gpu usage and visual effects when using it or not. For me the overall FPS being locked at 60 do not vary by more than 3 frames in general and when they do drop, slowly go back to max. Even on the Dorset 6, Monon 17 and the huge PRR-ER routes 60 is the norm for me. That is with the option both checked and unchecked.

Take a look at this for difference in Model Instancing / No Instancing.
Route is EuropeanBahn West Coast Main Line, location is Tring, other info in log file.
Note the enormous difference in Primitives.

Dennis

Edit: OR Release 3501 but results the same since Instancing was introduced.

Unfortunately, that did not work for me, in both the TOR and the DAR routes. Maybe it's my video card (AMD HD7770 1GB)?
