That's obviously not what I expected. Strange - the change I made was to explicitly clear the occupied sections when switching back from Manual to Auto.
Well, back to the drawing board.

Rob,
This may help. When the mode is first switched to manual before the diverging signal and you want to proceed past this signal, you must use the TAB key to get permission. If not, you are changed to OOC mode which is a different mode. This of course gives you the green signal. At this point, the signal mode is still in manual mode. Once the train clears the absolute signals, it appears that I am switched from manual mode and the signal is cleared for the AI train. I am not sure if this process is correct, but the clearing operation here may help you figure out the initial issue.
