Pushing the route south from Brattleboro to Springfield makes sense because almost all the trains ran through from Springfield to White River Junction. On the other hand, one must draw a line somewhere. South of Brattleboro had East Deerfield yard, the fascinating industrial district of Holyoke with a spider web of sidings and canals, and (like Rick says) Springfield Union Station, offering the intermingling of B&M, NH and B&A. If you think Bellows Falls was hard, the urbanness of Holyoke and Springfield is even more so.
