Hi David,

I have downloaded the installer "setup_OR_pre-v1.0_from_download.exe" from http://www.openrails.org/release.html, but when I run it, I get the message "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program".

Don't understand how that came about but, yes, it was definitely shorter than it should be.

I've uploaded it afresh and it opens OK now after downloading.

I wonder if there is any way to identify more reliable versions than the very latest one?

Probably not. We've gained a little bit of sanity by having the builds automated (thus avoiding mismatched binaries, source that doesn't compile, etc.) but it's pretty hard to go much further right now. We have almost no tests. If we had enough tests to make a reasonably confident "is this okay for general consumption" that could easily be wired in to the experimental releases or a special "update channel" for the installers, but that'll be a lot of tests.

How about working about 10 versions behind? Then we would have time to fix a bad version and manually tag it as "unpublishable" before the public gets hold of it.

This would be equivalent to the 30-second "profanity delay" in live TV/radio broadcasts.

Just a thought. Don't really want to make things complicated :sign_rockon:

This downloads, runs and installs OR sattisfactorily. It maintains my old setting from the previous manual install which was to a different location.

However, the title bar of OR now reads "Open Rails build 0.0.5221.16078 (2014-04-18 08:55:56Z) (debug)", with no option to update.

OR will not run with this install.

The only subfolder of the "Open Rails" folder is "Documentation". There are no "Content" or language folders. There are also several files which are in the OR_X.zip install and are not in this.

Bit frustrating, but thanks for reporting this. I look into it tomorrow evening.

Chris, you did see that I had posted two messages in response, I hope!

That puzzles me a bit as the first one says:

This downloads, runs and installs OR satisfactorily

and the second one says:

OR will not run with this install.

but we don't want a debug version out there. so I'll revisit it.

Chris, my first post confirms that the installer runs and installs OR. In addition to "debug", it does not offer upgrades. At the time of posting this I had not attempted to actually run OR.

My second post advises that the version of OR installed does not run. It does not have "Content" or language subfolders and has other files missing.

Thanks, David. That's very helpful.

A previous post mentioned the installer does not provide for upgrades. It may be worth while pointing out that some for various reasons run Windows without a network connection so any in built upgrade system will not work.

I also NEVER run any auto upgrade system on a production machine, ie a machine for normal use. All upgrades being checked carefully on a machine used for this purpose.
