On a side note: Somebody needs to talk to the MSVR's motive power department. these new passenger units they've been getting Continental Europe and whatnot make a P42 look pretty! (and that takes some doing!)

...and as the folks on Bazza's rail network can attest to, a sister class of locomotives has Asbestos issues. Jason, has the MSVR conducted tests on the locomotives to affirm no asbestos is in them, and--if there is--performed all necessary abatement?

We bought the DF11Gs for their power, not appearance, and, as Brody mentioned, they were indeed built here in the US. We were aware of the lower construction standards in China when we approached CDR about acquiring DF11s (and possible corruption in contract fufillement) so we established CRE and drew up our own DF11G designs under an agreement with CDR. The locomotives are based physically off the Chinese design but are completely different inside; they're built to US crash standards (considerably higher than China's) and use mostly US components (a GE prime mover and drive components among other things). The only things shipped here from China were the frames, trucks, and factory equipment necessary to manufacturing the carbodies.
There were some issues with the demonstrator DF11s and DF11G pair, though none before the units were sent into the field. The only other real issues with the demos was adapting their controls and readouts to the US system from metric.

Quick poll: who thinks a gyra-light would look okay on these?

Sawyer, only the original demos were actually built in China, and those have since been returned. Th new units are being built here in the US by California Rail Equipment, Inc., a privately owned group that's working with GE, MSVR, and the original Chinese manufacturer (name escapes me at the moment) to produce these new "series" units. I can assure you that there's no asbestos in these new units. And don't worry, these engines won't be spread nationwide, as they'll be in captive service on the Daylight and Lark Talgo sets.

My friend, you need less US-Built Chinese Dieselloks and more ALCo PA-1s....

We gotta stand out in some way... B)
:p
Was inside the cab of several Chinese DFs (DF4D, DF11, and DF8) during a trip in 2005. Here's hoping that won't turn out to be the worst sacrifice I made in the name of railfanning...

I think Dustin would appreciate these two shots.

The Montana Belt Rail Company, is another fictional of mine, but I never really got it off the ground and going. It doesn't really have a set base either. Originally I wanted to have it dated between 1985-1997 era, a what if scenario if BNSF didn't form in 1995. But now I am thinking, of simply using the MILW routes that are available, continuing those lines after the abandonment in 1980 or so by CPRail, or SOO, whoever..
the MBRC C44-9W as well as the MBRC SD45(not shown) were both painted by Anthony Morris, based off my idea of a scheme. I believe Alexander Taite did a few renumbers as well, but for his personal use, as I never did establish a perfect roster either..

Anyways, a pair of FBL AC44's lead a MBRC C44-9W across the former MILW "GAP" line, with a manifest train bound for the westcoast.

Here's the Tanning Oil Special heading the beach with a load of tanning oil. From Isle of Ashes, 2014. (Tanning Oil Please Activity) After the beach we go to the supermarket, I suppose that's what the boxcar is for. I think there should be a load of firewood for a beach blaze because this summer rain looks kinda nasty. The consist called for two GP38 but these 1930's Pacific Electrics (Tim Muir, ain't they fine!) seemed more appropriate with this route, electrified and all. Pantos are a little long, but it's fiction so no worries. That cow is gonna take a hit. Oh well, hamburgers for the "bque at the beach". (this thread did say, getting creative?)

Sexy SD45s Nash!
A pair of odd lashups on commuter services out of San Diego.
While normally assigned to long-distance trains P42s have become more common on short-haul and commuter services as new SD70MACs are cycled through the long-distance pool for evaluation. Even then, they are usually running solo on commuter services, even those running up to 9 cars. However, an engine fault caused 307's computer to half the maximum rpms the prime mover is allowed. Without sufficient power to climb Miramar hill with 9 cars in tow, the decision was made to add F40PH-2D 809 to assist the Genesis rather than cancel the service. However the next train, spanning 9 revenue cars and 2 additional deadheaders, would lack sufficient power, so management added GP60 1900. The unit, usually captive to the MSVR/TPRR yard in Pueblo, is in San Diego as a fill-in for the GP35 that usually handles switching movements as the latter unit was due for an overhaul. The GP35 will return on the first southbound freight tonight and arrive before the early morning local that it usually powers is scheduled to leave.

Incredible to see three different generations of MSVR stock still have lined-up striping; hats off to you for the attention to detail Brody :)

All we need is a set of maroon Fs or Es up front, and this could easily have been a consist in the 1950s.
