NORTHERN PACIFIC BALDWIN DRS-6-6-15 NO.525
A High Poly model with Large Art.
Mesh and Textures ©2010 by Allen Norton and Tim Muir
NP TEXTURES © 2012 by Tim Muir
!!You must have the 608sc.zip sound pack from Train-Sim.com library!!
Main texture is a 2048x2048 ace file. This can be resized to 1024 if the large file causes issues, but with some loss to texture quality.
Cabview is by Dwight Mitchell, used with permission as stated by him in his readme document found within the folder Common.Cab which goes into ...\Trains\Trainset Folder along with NP_525_DRS-6-6-15 Folder. Cabview positions have been corrected in the .cvf files included.
Credits to Allen Norton who generously gave me his original TSM and art files as a base for this model. Main texture built up over drawings supplied by Frank Musick.
Inspired by Jim Bebenroth's email remark, that it would be nice to have an NP DRS-6-6-15, -"if they even had any". Turns out they had only the one example, number 525, later renumbered to 407 under BN ownership.

Repowered units are often overlooked, thank you so much for filling this niche. Nice work.

Thanks, David, I appreciate that, although I had no idea the engine was repowered at all LOL. Now, since this info has come to light (to me) after the fact, the question comes to mind, did the original engine have the single fat stack and turbocharger bulge on the left side of the hood? It is also noted that this engine has to have 567 sounds dropped in now. I don't have access to any photos or data concerning the 177 if I want to make a backdated version.

Also KLW's EMD-7 Sound pack is very good as well. May work nice on the 525?

Please leave it as it is. The repowering movement is all but forgotten, especially in the sim. No matter how unintentional, this model of the 525 is a perfect example of the creativity and resourcefulness of that era. Please leave it as it is. There are plenty of choices for sounds, perhaps the sounds found in frvr4505.zip in the T-S library are the best fit.
The Northern Pacific also had a Baldwin DRS-4-4-15, number 176, It was eventually repowered too, but not until 1966. At that time it was renumbered 501, and became BN 406. So the repowered 525 and the as-built 176 co-existed for several years.
