OK, here's another question: How do you restore a saved game? I know you can hit Resume while the menu is still up but what if I want to restart a saved game tomorrow? :bigboss:

You open the menu and hit resume. There's no support for multiple save files (although you could copy the file around if you like) but you don't have to leave the menu open to resume later.

James,

I was hoping for an improvement over the MSTS "save" function whereby one could include a brief description when saving. My qualm with MSTS is that saves are only named with a date and time -- which for most purposes are meaningless.

You mention being able to copy the saved file, where does ORTS store it?

Stick "%APPDATA%\Open Rails" in to Windows Explorer and you'll see "save.bin"; you can do anything you like in terms of copying and moving the file, though obviously only whatever is currently called "save.bin" is resumable. Also, the save files contain paths to activities and related files so if you move the data it'll break.

Reminds me to ask: James, where is the log file these days?

I guess I wasn't clear Chris, I meant the performance data log created by f12.

So on my 56 routes, 33 of which are behind Train Store and 23 of which are in Mini-routes, I can't save an activity, load another route, save an activity there and go back to the first activity? Is there a simulator of any sort out there that doesn't allow multiple saves? This could be a serious oversight on an otherwise excellent simulator. ;)

Hold your britches, Herb. This feature doesn't happen to be implemented as of yet. We're still working on getting things up and running that are of a higher priority.

Please be patient. There's still a lot to do.

;)

You can save multiple sessions. It just takes a little effort.

Initiate hidden files visible using Folder and Search Options

Go to: C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Open Rails\

The saved files are SAVE.BIN

Rename the file something like SAVE.BIN.Bnsf2

Then you can save another session.

To run the old session just rename it back to SAVE.BIN

Takes a little work

Harold

It's just the current, basic implementation! I'm getting quite sick of people assuming every feature that exists is finished. THEY ARE NOT!
