We can still use sound regions besides signals (for simulation of isolated joints) and every 800m, саn't we?

@Weter At the moment you can only have either jointed track or welded track - not both on the same route.

This is possible. Simply use different sound regions for different route sections. It is obviously not possible if you include the track sound within the trainset (wagon or locomotive) sound, which however probably isn't the best solution.

Indeed, ORTSExternalSoundPassedThroughPercent is what TrainDude calls ORTSPercentExternalSoundVolume (however it is not within the Sound block in the .wag file, but in an independent line within the Wagon() block.
What is missing is what TrainDude calls ORTSPercentTrackSoundVolume, which could be a nice to have addition to OR.

In my case I created a binary cadence sound using the excellent sounds created for the Czechoslovak routes as a basis, I simply edited the samples for strictly personal use and I am quite satisfied.

More than anything else I would like to point out that there are some bugs on the sound system in general.. for example, has it ever happened to you that while driving a locomotive some sounds disappear and to reset you need to change view and then go back to the cab view?

Yes, that happens.

To make different amounts of sound insulation inside different vehicles you can use this in the wag files:
ORTSExternalSoundPassedThroughPercent ( 60 )
Although it would be nice to have jointed track sounds on old tracks and cwr sounds on new tracks where there is a mixture of both on the same route.

Thank you, darwins, for pointing me in this direction! I've been retrofitting my passenger cars, locomotives and cabooses/brake vans with this parameter like crazy since you mentioned it.

All we need now is an ORTSExternalSoundPassedThroughDoorsOpenPercent ( x ) parameter and an ORTSTrackSoundPassedThroughPercent ( x ) parameter to compliment them!

I'm implementing ORTSTrackSoundPassedThroughPercent ( x ). This is a new parameter for the Wagon() section of the .eng and .wag files, and allows to define the percentage of the retained volume of the internal track sound.

That'll be nice, sometimes the track sounds get grating.
