Change in mass as fuel and water is used up only seems to works for locomotive tenders.

Using similar ORTSFreightAnims with steam tank locomotives and diesel locomotives there seems to be no change of mass.

Did it work in v1.5.1?

Do the CTN stock versions work?

Change in mass does not work for the CTN test locos, and it did not work in version 1.5.1

Whilst the 4MT tank loco has the same mass in both v 1.5.1 and the current unstable version, the SD-70ace diesel loco shows a mass of 133.7t in the unstable versions, but slightly less at 133.1t-uk in v 1.5.1

Hello

Now it's time to find the 1.3 version where it still worked well.

Sincerely, Laci1959

I thought that we just recently tested the NS SD-70ace to confirm that it did work in the then unstable version. I will set a high oil consumption level tomorrow and retest it.

We did recently test the SD70, but we confirmed that it did not work!

Thanks for the eng file. I can confirm that there is no change in mass.
6 hours on full throttle
diesel decreases from 4080.1g-uk to 3461.3g-uk = 618.8g-uk
Assuming 1g-uk diesel has a mass approx 7.1 lb then 618.8g-uk x 7.1 = 4393 lb = 1.96t-uk Loco mass at start and end of test is 131.1t-uk - so not seeing the expected change of nearly 2 tons. Version U2023.11.22-2037

Thanks for the feedback.

Interesting, I have just run a test in U2024.01.14-0737, and it appears to work for me.

To confirm that we are using the same test conditions, can you please download and install the latest copy of the NS SD-70ace from the CTN site.

In the ENG file make the following temporary adjustment:

        	DieselConsumptionTab (
                      	0 0
                      	318 14.8
                      	950 10469.3
        	)

I then started the run with the locomotive weighing 210.2 t-us, and after 10 minutes or so the weight had reduced.

If you are not achieving the same outcome, we will need to try and determine where the differences are in our setups.

My results are rather different to yours and rather interesting.

Using ctn_test_model_norfolk_southern_v2.exe and U2024.01.14-0737

Consist 2xSD70ACe plus 7400 tons Test Consist

With original fuel consumption, no change in mass after 12 hours on full throttle.

With modified fuel consumption, no change in mass for approx 1 hour.
Initial mass 133.7t-uk for each locomotive.
After that time (approx 50% of fuel consumed) the mass did start to decrease.
After approx 2 hours all fuel was used up and engines stopped, final mass 126.2t-uk for each loco.

As you suggest they certainly are radically different.

Given that supposedly we are using the same configuration and stock, it seems really strange that you have an initial weight of 133t-uk, whereas my starting weight is 187.5 t-uk (210 t-us or 420000 lbs). It might be worthwhile to try and work out why we are getting different weights first. I have loaded my version in both v1.5.1, and the latest Unstable version, and both show the same starting weight of 210 t-us. Does your ENG file have the same weights as what you are seeing on the HuD?

Checking through

In the list of consists, I have two different consists with the same display name.

TrainCfg ( "~CTN-NS_2xSD70ACe plus 7400 tons Test Consist"
Name ( "Norfolk Southern - 2xSD70ACe plus 7400 tons Test Consist" )

and

TrainCfg ( "NS_2xSD70ACe plus 7400 tons Test Consist"
Name ( "Norfolk Southern - 2xSD70ACe plus 7400 tons Test Consist" )

That should make no difference though, as they both have identical contents referring to:

EngineData ( NS_SD70ACE_1030_OR ~CTN-NS-SD70ACe )

The eng file itself has:

Mass ( 420000.0lb )

Which should give the correct mass of 210t-us and not the one given in my HuD.

Then there is this section

ORTSFreightAnims (
WagonEmptyWeight( 124.37t-uk )
EmptyORTSDavis_A ( 1840 )
EmptyORTSDavis_B ( 35.7 )
EmptyORTSDavis_C ( 4.0 )
EmptyCentreOfGravity_Y ( 1.5 )

FreightAnimContinuous (
FreightWeightWhenFull( 6.74t-uk )
ORTSDavis_A ( 1900.0 )
ORTSDavis_B ( 38.0 )
ORTSDavis_C ( 4.0 )
FullCentreOfGravity_Y ( 1.7 )
)
)

This gives a mass of 131.1t-uk, which is what I get in the HuD on version 1.5.1

I do not know where the extra 2.6t-uk comes from that I am seeing in the unstable version.

Nor can I say why the final mass when the fuel is used up is 126.2t-uk rather than 124.4t-uk nor why mass stays the same until half the fuel is used up.

Perhaps they are influenced by ORTSMaxTrackSanderBoxCapacity ( 40.0ft^3 )?
