MSTS had that one covered as well. The bigger the diameter in stackfx the softer the visible exhaust was.

to add to what Traindude has said about diamond stacks here are a few more videos of them. Yes copperpen is right in that MSTS did have that covered and wondering if Open Rails could do the same sort of thing in the future.

Just thinking out loud again...

It might be a little too early to implement this now, but with improvements to firing, adding drafting and improving smoke physics, we could introduce another mechanic to the system---spark/cinder/ember emissions from the stack.

When burning any kind of solid fuel, there is the inevitable possibility of the draft carrying live embers from the firebed into the smokebox, and eventually out the stack. Most of these embers will usually burn out either on their way to the smokebox or after they're ejected out the stack (before they hit the ground, kind of like fireworks debris). However, the visual effect of embers leaving the stack, particularly when the combustion draft is very strong, is something worth modelling eventually.

From a gameplay point of view, activities can possibly display pop-up messages informing the player that the sparks from their engine have ignited dried vegetation along the ROW. (This is, of course, dependent on the climate of the route's location as well as the weather and season when the activity takes place.)

Hello.
It must be looking cool at night time.
So, arrestors did not always cope with that?

They help to some degree, but not in all cases.

Case in point: Union Pacific Challenger 3985 in the 1980s (while it was still a coal burner):
Runby near Provo, UT. See the smoking patches of grass near the end of the video!
Lots of sparks while travelling through a tunnel!

Another factor in determining the spar emission rate is the percentage of fine particles or ash present in the fuel being burned.

Smoke and steam

Hello.

I transferred Peter's development to a simple locomotive. It worked out very well, as the video shows. There was some problem because at the beginning I left the original CylindersFX posts out of laziness. As usual, it didn't go well. I copied everything over again, then step by step I deleted the unnecessary things.
Could the smoke coming out of the chimney be adapted to fire? Even for the operation of the AI heater? Even in a standing position.

Sincerely, Laci 1959
