Is the second one MSTS model?
(strange buffer lights...)

Hi Weter

Yes, it's also an MSTS, but it's more of an OR model. Produced by Ádám Zadravecz ( ZaZa ). There is also a 3d cab for this steamer.
The lamp is a MÁV standard lamp. It originally operated with carbide gas, but was later electrified. Currently, the light source consists of high brightness white LEDs.

Sincerely, Laci1959

Thanks.
Outstanding model. Why without nameplate?
I actually have meant very unusual (for MSTS models) light texture.
Furthermore, it's traditionally never being displayed in SViewer.

Why ZaZa is disappeared from ET?
Is he well?

I don't think there is a game engine that would make up for the modeling deficiencies.

Thank you on sharing that picture with the Golsdorf 380. I totally agree with you. Last few years I have seen some pretty amazing screenshots of, for example, polish rolling stock and they are absolutly amazing. And I also recall my first reaction when I started using OR a few years ago, prior to monogame, on increased quality on using the same exact same routes i used back on MSTS. So I understand your point completly. And because of that, that's why I have started a few months ago to upgrade the quality of many textures on my Route's assets to a photorealistic level. On that account textures.com as the sorts have prouved invaluable since I take photos and use paint sho pro like a Dodo.

But mainly what you are saying is passing from this:

This is MÁV model 424.001, restored to near-production condition. At that time, there was no enameled number plate on the front wall.
It appears in both Shape View for me.
I think ZaZa went to competition ( TS 2000? ) like many others.
So a good game engine can do everything. You can even make a regular 3-dimensional concrete subfloor under the rails from a piece of sheet metal. Or build an arch above the window brick by brick..
Or not?

Looking a the impressive video, I am amazed at how far the game engines have progressed in the last few years.

I accept that to run this level of graphics requires a seriously powerful computer, which is out of the budget for most people. What we are missing most of all in OR are lighting effects - reflections and realistic shadows, ambient occlusion - in my opinion.

It's also very true to say that the quality of most our models would not be good enough for a super game engine. Modellers, and that includes myself, should bear this in mind with new models. We can make the models at higher detail, and then simplify them to suit the OR of today. Then we'll have the models ready for future enhancements.

That's what I intend to do, anyhow.

Geoff

Maybe we should push the boundaries here first. To test what the current game engine can do. A more detailed model is developed. The size of the shape file of the rightmost segment of the Roundhouse shown in the previous picture is larger than the world file size of the file that can be handled by MSTS RE.

The four-car setup did not cause a significant FPS drop. All cars have two levels of LOD.

The car shown in the picture consists of three shape files, totaling 8533kByte.

Not trying to start a "my files are bigger than you files"...Just an observation. I haven't paid attention to file size of late, just added detail as I wanted.

Latest project PHANTOM converts to a 34,750KB file. Open Rails doesn't seem to have an issue with it, even with a tender and a seven car passenger train. Each car file is 39,442KB. Oddly enough, the smallest car, the tender file size is 67,303KB. Haven't really paid attention to frame rate. The train moves and that's as far as my research has gone. Seems we may not be pushing OpenRails to the max

*.s-files could be compressed then.
As they are very big text files, they can be compressed very efficiently.
1-2MB when compressed.

Hello,

I am the creator of this Unreal Engine 5 Train Sim software. Its been a while since I checked my YouTube video analytics so I hadn't noticed that this forum was viewing it until last night. So sorry about that.
It was mainly made to show how UE5 can be used for signal sighting as well as other uses. Its realtime, can even be viewed in VR (although certain graphic settings need to be adjusted, IE pre baked lighting). I was always disappointed with the graphics quality of many train sims - so, I thought I could try and do better .... but its only a hobby!

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks
