If I'm reading Erick's post correctly you will need to set up these ORTS parameters for your locomotive and cars..

Comment ( Amtrak Cascades Fleet Management Plan November 2017 )
Comment ( Figure C-4: Diagram of EMD F59PHI Locomotive -- Page96 )
Comment ( ORTS Parameters for wagon section of ENG file )
Comment ( include ( "..\\..\\..\\..\\..\\Common.inc\\Locomotives\\Flange&Track\\EMD_F59PHI.inc" ) )

    ORTSWheelFlangeLength ( 19.1516mm )
    ORTSMaximumWheelFlangeAngle ( 1.308996rad )
    ORTSTrackGauge ( 1435.1mm )
    ORTSUnbalancedSuperelevation ( 65.024mm )

I'm very glad, You've managed to tune that feature!
One of open architecture stuff's usage sides is a possibility to setup/customize everything according to user's wishes by himself.
As Erick have said:

the new geometry parameters (i.e. wheelbase, truck centers, flange height)
are needed to be present and to have appropriate values.

I did end up getting the DemoAutoSound package to work properly, and WOW does it really make the driving experience better.

As to what erick said, its interesting to know how those sounds are set up. Might have to start setting that up on my rolling stock too.

There isn't much that's special about them. I have two flange squeal streams, one for relatively low force (such as high speed on gentle curves) and another for high force (such as low speed on tight curves). The two streams are blended together with volume curves that are curve force dependent. Each stream uses a rather large set of samples that is randomized for each car. Some additional parameters deactivate the streams with distance to keep the total number of streams across an entire train relatively low.

Honestly, the sounds are public domain and available here and at train-sim.com. There really aren't any secrets to them. All you have to do is select the appropriate SMS files based on wheel size (so the flat spots are timed correctly), whether the car is loaded or unloaded, and brake type (cast iron or composition).

Insofar as the new geometry parameters, they aren't necessary to hear the flange squeal, but they do seem to lead to more accurate results. OR does an OK job of estimating the parameters when they're not present.

Question on flange... should it be Dopplered?...

For all the time I've sat trackside, I don't recall flange squeal having pitch differential. If it's happening in the rail, it's static and shouldn't have velocity.

Agree - it shouldn't.
