Just curious:
Was waiting at siding with a huge train on ORTS Mullan pass waiting for the AT traff to pass. But once I got the green, no way my train moves because of 2.2 % uphill grade and also winter snow conditions. Also, I get broken coupler probs. Sander doesn't seem to do the job and all that.
Switch to Alt-A autopilot mode. the train moves like a beauty on green.. How come? What is the Autopilot doing that I'm not?
Thanks
No wheelslip probs in Autopilot mode OTRS

simplified adhesion model and other physics - as for AI trains.

My problem is this.. If I switch from Autopilot to manual mode and use the recommended settings for best experience as suggested by ORTS, and whenever there is poor adhesion conditions like winter storm, the train does very badly on climbs.. esp what I see is that when I turn the sander on, the speed immediately plummets to zero even though this should not be the case. Could some1 suggest something here?

You could start with the activity, or if the the activity is your own design, the details of the consist and position on the track.
You could also post a log file so that we can get an idea of your settings.

As I had said earlier, if I use sander, the speed does not increase.. It goes to zero. and of course if I give too much thrust,
coupler breaks. But this does not happen in Autopilot mode

When you only have 4gb of ram, do not use the LAA version, you don't have enough memory.
It would appear that your Mullan install is corrupt, please try a reinstall.
I see you have automatic tuning turned on, your machine is at the very bottom end of machines to run Open Rails, and Mullan is at the high end of routes to run.

And it never will, Autopilot and the AI trains do not honour physics.

Many thanks for ur reply.. I know that my machine is just about adequate. So that could be the main reason I guess. Regardless, I still am able to squeeze it to the last drop.
What is "automatic tuning turned on" ? I did not get U.
