As Chris mentioned, I have some up-to-date stats on the usage of Open Rails official versions

The usual disclaimers apply about these stats:

Quote

These stats counts up the number of unique IP addresses* seen by the update server* over each 28 day period*.

• This will under-count shared internet connections all using Open Rails, and over-count users on frequently-changing IP addresses.
  
• Open Rails checks for updates once per day, but only when opened. Official versions only.
  
• Rather than actual months, which vary and don't align to weekdays/weekends.

Aug 5 - Sep 2 (total: 22,703)

• Stable: 19,303 (85.0%)
  
• Testing: 2,783 (12.3%)
  
• Unstable: 617 (2.7%)

Feb 17 - Mar 17 (total: 23,073)

• Stable: 21,001 (91.0%)
  
• Testing: 1,642 (7.1%)
  
• Unstable: 430 (1.9%)

I think MANY of us use Carlo's New Year's Edition - you don't get stats on that - correct?

Yeah Scott that's what I was thinking, but 23,000 is still an impressive number.

There are also people who don't speak English, or don't have enough knowledge to participate in ET threads or report bugs.
Personally, of the 20 close people who use OR, I think only 2 participate in ET

OTOH, just some month ago, it was reported about 15 thousands unique downloads of ORTS.
Hence, every month more, than 1000 new users come into ORTS, what's not so bad.

The sad thing, is, that I've meant forum in native language, somewhere outside ET.
And there is an opinion, that preferences have changed: forums became unpopular.
Yes, Dave: everyday I see here 100+ guests (including indexing robots?) and quite rare more, than 10+ members.

We do not collect stats on any unofficial versions.

Ideally, active forum contributors would mostly be on the Unstable Verson to pick up problems early. If you haven't already, we'd like to know why you use the unofficial NewYear MG version so that we can improve the official versions for more people.
