It's supposed to be where MO, IA, KS & NE all come together. In all actuality that area is pretty hilly and has a lot of trees, where there aren't any fields. Towns tended to be small.
70-80 years ago there weren't a lot of people around either. Just maybe 20% of where we are today. So lots more open space.
The current route looks like where I grew up, NE CO. You could see the mountains west of Denver and we were 112 miles ENE of Denver. So there's that.
The VSL is a tabletop route. Flat. So I'm trying to come up with a mixture that looks right to me so it could be anywhere that it looks like it is.
I've been doing some work in situ.
