(Without deeper knowledge of these environments) What I don't understand is why there is a need for MSTS and non-MSTS environments. Everything else is working like in MSTS, why the environments are exception? I doubt the reason is that the non-MSTS one is more advanced.

It's more flexible, allowing to tune it at 4 channels (fog, cloud coverage - tied with lighting gamma; precipitation intensity and liquidity) plus ambient lighting slider at options tab, or have even dynamic weather, (working automatically, or defined by special activity events/weather files for timetable mode).rather beautiful, but static MSTS environment, IMHO.

Hello

The env files can accurately describe the time of sunrise and sunset. OR does not appear to be using these times. That's not really real. Just recently, several people in a Facebook group have been complaining about this.
Due to the lack of proper knowledge, it is difficult to make a good proposal. The latter applies to OR.

Sincerely, Laci1959

Yes.
I heared it here already: instead of derive sunset/sunrise times from geographic coordinates of given route, ORTS, as they said, uses data, related to one of states in USA. That's strange.

Weter, that's a fake. I don't know whether the calculations are correct, but OR uses the lat/lon of the viewing camera and the selected season to state sunset and sunrise time.

I've noticed a correlation with a season, but WRT Latitude, it's not precise.
But I've pulled discussion out of options too far, please excuse me.

WRT latitute: Early in OR the latitude was hardcoded to Wisconsin. At some later date that was replaced using information relative to the location of the in-game camera.

well, just this week i was running an 'observer train' in timetable mode for one of my stations since 3:30 AM and noticed the sun rising at 4:40'ish AM... impossible at my 38th parallel... and the route is placed in the correct latitude. A few years ago I played with the env files figures but never got any result and thus forgot about the entire subject...

Sort of on topic...the time-of-day that triggers the night cabview on-off is also skewed...it's off by a couple of hours.

1. Yes, Wysconsin.
2. Yes, too early: like at higher LATITUDES, than the route is.
