Hi Vince,
I don't have the Performance tuner active, just the reduced memory box. It seems strange that using that feature would black out the snow terrtex. It's no real problem not to use the option, it just took me awhile to figure out why the terrain wasn't showing up.

Peter,
thank you for your very useful discovery. That option does not work perfectly, but I prefer to leave it for cases with severe memory problems. Does the problem appear at game start or after some time? I just tested with the option checked, and at game start the winter terrain appears.

On my device, the textures are gone at the start, in both activity and explore mode. They are also gone whether it is snowing or not.
I don't fully understand how the feature works, are the effects determined by the strain on the computer that is used?

Unfortunately I get the snow textures with the option checked at game start, so I can't try to find out what is the problem.
The feature unloads from memory shape files, texture files and some more items as soon as they are no more needed.

In case it helps, here is the log file from a test using MG 88, CN Ruel Route, with winter and snow settings: (with memory reducing enabled)
OpenRailsLog.txt (11.52K)
Number of downloads: 207
The only routes where I can get this to occur are Ruel and Mullan. Other large routes I've tried (RGS and Seligman) have no issues. Perhaps it is a result of a combination of settings?

Do those routes have .dds files for the terrain textures?

Hi Carlo,
Yes, those routes have .dds tile textures. They also have .dds snow textures as well.

OK, so I suppose this is the reason. I'll see if this can be adjusted.

Peter,
I haven't routes using .dds textures for terrain, so I converted all terrain textures of route USA1 to .dds. Here the textures disappear (in all OR releases, official and not) only if the experimental option "Load DDS textures in preference to ACE" isn't checked.
If the option is checked, everything is displayed correctly. BTW the stable and testing versions show wrong colours.
Do you have that option checked, as it should be?
