Part 2 of the San Juan:
Recap: the San Juan left Alamosa late, & followed the rotary. At MP 338.5, a wheel broke on the rotary. The San Juan,along with a freight had to stop.
Intermission: Section men from Chama & Cumbres came to the site to repair the wheel. The 476 (heading the eastbound San Juan) brought material (blocking and ties) to repair the wheel. The crews of the 2 westbound trains had eats & slept in sleeping quarters in cook car on rotary, the outfits, & in the coaches (the long seats) while the repairs took place.
Present: It'now March 26, the repairs got completed at 9:50 AM. The rotary left the site at 10:20, & the 2 trains (San Juan & the freight) left 5 minutes later. The San Juan rolls over Lobato trestle...
... rolls through the narrows...
... Over the Chama River...
... & pulls into Chama at 10:55 AM. The rotary arrived 5 minutes earlier, & the 2 engines on the freight pulled into Chama (perhaps together) at 11:10 AM.
