It's October; the Empire Builder departs Whitefish at 7:41 PM as it begins running on the Hi-Line to Havre. The next stop is West Glacier (Belton). As the train heads east, it rolls through Columbia Falls.


Whitefish is the site of: a yard, servicing facilities, & a station.

Columbia Falls is where the Kalispell branch starts. It has a wye, and several industries.

The train rolls past the plant at COnkelly, and stops at West Glacier.

After leaving West Glacier, the train rolls through Essex.

Essex is the site of a yard, wye, and a station ( the Empire Builder has a flag stop here).

The train climbs the 1.8% grade.

The train crests the summit and begins rolling downhill.

The train rolls through East Glacier as it heads to Browning. During the summer, the Empire Builder would stop here, but it closed a few days before, so the train stops at Browning.

The train stops at Browning then gets underway again. During the winter, the Empire Builder stops here.

The train rolls over the Cutbank Bridge, and stops at Cutbank. Cutbank is home to grain elevators and a station.

The train soon pulls into Shelby. Shelby is the site of: a yard, station, & the start of the Great Falls Branch. West of the yard, the Sweet Grass Branch heads north.
