Anyone seen any N&W F's? I just looked and can't find any for MSTS.

Robert

Hi Robert. N&W did have some of these. And it was less than a hand full. I can't remember where I had seen a few photos of them. N&W didn't like these units. They were not by any means "user friendly" for switching or use in the coal fields. Even the units that are made today, NS still purchases these with a control stand instead of the desk top controls. If I run across the F unit photo I will post it.

If you look back through this thread you'll see them. They were acquired with the Wabash, and ran mostly on ex-Wabash property

I did run across one over on Train Sim several years ago. Downloaded it, made a consist, opened it in the sim, and deleted it. It wasn't worth writing home about.

Hi Rick. If I remember right, It was the Wabash merger that N&W went from the black with gold lettering to the blue and gold paint.

Sweet shots on the Buffalo.

A lot of talk here on the ex-Wabash F Units of the N&W. What a lot of people don't know that in the late 1960's, some of those N&W F's were leased to the CNJ during their power storage. Some were leased from the B&O too. They were mostly used on the High Bridge Branch but sometimes used on the Southern Division to in A-A form with a Geep or RS-3 unit on the end of them. They were used on the main too & Pennsylvania duties also until operations ceased in 1972. A-A made it easy on the Southern Div. for no turning & the Geep (7 or 9) or RS-3 performed the switching duties. The B&O's were stenciled over with a Liberty Logo & renumbered but doing that to the N&W units would have violated the lease terms. So it was cool seeing foreign power in Lakehurst (I seen it only once in 1971).

Great thread here !!!

These F's are really nice. I have not seen these before.

A veteran A-B-A trio of Gulf, Mobile & Ohio F3 units are still going strong in these late-1960s (pre-Illinois Central merger) images.

The Penn Central had really not the most beautiful color scheme, but the F units still look good ...
