The problem is ORTS does not fully recognize all the satellites in the env file. The work Robert Murphey was doing might have corrected some of the issues. Kosmos environments were not trivial to create nor get working.

Yeah i know. Bigger issue is, ORTS is way behind of MSTS in that area ( unrealistic sunrise/sunset timing, cartoonish sky colors and ambient ligthing , etc)

Hi Folks,

Huh ?

I feel completely the opposite - LOL - my ORTS looks light years better than anything MSTS ever produced...

I'm in agreement with Scott; with the right skydome textures, OR skies can look pretty darn good to my eye (granted, maybe there's room for tweaking sunrise/sunset times and their associated colors, but as a whole, I'm satisfied with it).

Of course, the other factor related to Kosmos is the water, and I think THAT is where OR isn't quite up to par with MSTS. IMHO, I do think OR may be better suited with going its own direction for water, including reflection, ripples, or other dynamics, rather than only sticking to Kosmos compatibility (although that's not necessarily a bad thing). Kosmos water was good at the time for MSTS, since there wasn't much that could be done with the water back then, but I think OR has the capability to go much beyond that (I would say the "sky's the limit," but it's more like "the water's the limit" at the moment).

The snow effect in ORTS needs LOTS of work.

The environments in ORTS need a lot of work. I would also like to see 2d lightning effects. I've done some research on the subject and submitted my findings for their consideration for future development.

I also would like it if windows could be rain streaked and the wipers clearing the rain and snow too.

Hi Folks,

I don’t know if this would help - and I don’t know what’s included in the package - but one of the best companies on the flight simulator side released their windshield physics based rain drops product - for free - as a community service - both for freeware and payware... It’s very realistic and affected by speed through the air - gravity - etc... While I don’t know what’s needed on the game engine side - this product is actually aimed at modelers - as it’s incorporated into the actual model file itself... I don’t know if any of the assets would prove beneficial on this side of the fence - but it might be worth a look for those in the know...

For any consideration of rain on cab windows, though, we'd have to solve the wiper/door animation length bug in 3D cabs. As it stands you can't really animate the wipers or doors in the 3D cab unless you want extremely jerky brake lever animations.
