Hi Damo,

I was a Trainz user from Trainz 2004 up to TANE, but then I found that the excellent graphics required a high spec computer to display them at any sort of realistic frame rate. I eventually gave up, and moved on to OR.

Only yesterday I reloaded Trainz 2019 to see how my new computer would handle it. It does, and the game looks very good. The lighting, details, and scenery are excellent.

My computer has Intel Core i5 2.9 Ghz, with 32Gb memory, and the graphics card is nVidia Gforce GTX1650.with 4Gb memory. After running Trainz for a few minutes, I could hear the cooling fans running fast, so I guess it was working hard. You can turn down the graphics settings, which loses some detail, and shadows.

One of the best features of Trainz is the Surveyor, where you can quickly build a route. Laying track is a doddle. Another great feature is the download station. Here, the game automatically recognises if there are any missing assets, and gives you the option of downloading them and installing directly from the Auran database.

All in all it is a mature and attractive product, but I am not about to abandon OR to get back into it, even though I can do this for free, since the Auran website remembers what you own and will download it to you with no fuss.

Geoff

Take a look at the date of the posts.
You just went on my ignore list.

Claus, IMO you over-reacted to his question. IIRC he was not active in forums when you created the skydomes and if that is the case he knows nothing of the issues. He also posted he meant nothing offensive by his question.

Hi Andre http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif,
The route used in the Pacific Northwest screenshot a few pages back, The BN Oasis Route, has been removed from the web page, reasons unknown.Other than that, everything in my screenshots is payware and/or freeware. Mostly from Jointedrail.com and some locomotives from RRMods.com.Everything is unmoddified, and I don't use any of the inbuilt shader functions in Trainz, no external shader programs, no photo shopping and no tricks of any kind. It's all as it comes. What I do use is Nvidia controlpanel and Nvidia Inspector, to make the most ludicrous settings I can think of, in order to improve the graphics quality of images.
Best regards Claus

Hello Claus!

I missed your reply and just tonight saw it. My apologies.

Thank you for your explanation.

Trainz has progressed into an amazing product.

I am tempted.

My main interest in train simulation is 19th century US railroads. However, the screen shots you show of diesel era railroading is very attractive, too.

Can you recommend a website or forum where I can learn more about what products are available?

Thank you for your help and your input.

Hi Andre http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif.
No need to apologize. I have been busy, helping my son to move to a new apartment, so I haven't been very responsive either.
I will try to answer your questions later.
Best regards Claus
