I hope this project is still alive.

I also hope that Wayne is still planning to release the London & Port Stanley for RW/TS as well.

Although I haven't posted much, I have been making progress with the CVP. I am surprised to see my last post was 2 years ago. Time sure flies when you are retired. I hope no one minds if I revive an old thread. I thought for continuity it just made sense to continue on here.

At this point the track is laid end-to-end - its about 20 miles total. I like shorter runs, so I've kept the route small with shorter distances between towns and other features. I'll share some maps and a track diagram in a later post.

Here we are heading west towards Adams bay.

The CVP was extended here to provide an interchange with the Great Northern.

This line drops down to the waterfront passenger depot and tourist hotel.

The local switch crew chats it up on the customer loading dock. The 0-6-0 is one of Tim's fine models.

I've been thinking about making a 2-8-2 as the prime motive power on the CVP. I know they were used on a couple of west coast railroads - the Pacific Great Eastern, and the Great Northern. Certainly the 2-8-0 would be more the workhorse of a line like the CVP, but there are so many 2-8-0 models available for Railworks that I don't really want to make another one. This 2-8-2 is kitbashed from parts of several other models.

This is wonderful news indeed Wayne! Thank you for the update.

As a side note, any chance we might see the LPS in the near future for RW?

Unfortunately, not much chance from me. Just too many other projects.

I'm in love! This pike touches my very soul, it's so Pacific Northwest, it makes me homesick for wherever it is in virtual space. I like what you've done to the Class W Mike. It looks like you added a different trailing truck to, what was that?, the 1548? Just plain awesome work, Wayne. You have a great sense of scene-building, always have and always inspirational. :thumbup3: :thumbup3:

I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Tim, looks like you'll need to make a Dominion (Fowler patent) boxcar for Wayne too! He can't have just American cars in BC!!

Yes. I agree there is a need for Fowler's. I intend to do one someday. Got the drawings and photos set aside for now. But, as Wayne himself says, "Too many other projects" :) Yep, that pretty well sums it up for me too.

Stuck in 1864 ;)

The Columbia Valley Pacific is a fictional route running across the border between British Columbia Canada and Washington State USA. The book, 'Steam Along the Boundary' by Turner and Wilkie was a key influence for the project. Its a composite of the Kettle Valley Railway, and the Columbia and Western with some Great Northern and Canadian Pacific mixed in as well. You might recognize bits of the BC towns of Grand Forks, Keremeos, Castlegar and see some of Oroville, Republic and Kettle Falls from the US.

You won't actually find this route on the map, but if you did, it would be somewhere in this vicinity.

And to help you follow my progress, here's a more detailed look at the places on the line.
http://www3.telus.net/wacampbell/pics/CVPMap.png

At the turn of the twentieth century, rich ore deposits - gold, silver and copper - were discovered in the region. The two national giants - Canadian Pacific and Great Northern - battled for rights to serve the region. But while their efforts were tied up in courts and political backrooms, a consortium of mining and smelting interests formed to get the job done. The CVP received its charter in 1908 and began quietly building up the Columbia River to become the first to reach the area.
The route represents the CVP's Boundary subdivision, the furthest north extension of a line that originates in the Republic / Kettle Falls region of Washington state.

Division headquarters are at Columbia. From there the line continues west to the large copper smelter at Dog Creek and then on to the western terminus at Adams Bay. At the outbreak of the first world war, the raw materials of this area acquired strategic importance and the government funded a connection from Columbia to the Canadian Pacific's mainline at Panaska. It actually connects at Yale, but CVP has running right from there to the interchange at Panaska. And eventually the Great Northern Railway extended a line from Oroville to Adams Bay, giving its customers access to the Dog Creek smelter.

Well that gives you a little background for the line. I'll fill in more detail in future posts.

I forgot to include these pics. This week I took a drive to the Cheam Lake wetlands to take some reference pics for this scene. I ended up making some reeds and mossy water bits to detail out this little pond just west of Ryan.
