Well I went back and tried out your suggestion Herb. Didn't take long since I had saved the game just before I cut the power off the train. Even with the train brakes set at 15lbs I can not swap back to the 489. Still get the " speed must be = 0" error. hmmm.....

OK, you got me stumped. I ran a similar operation using the 487 and 498, duplicating the June 12, 1967 freight I saw in person. Had no trouble bouncing back and forth getting the helper cut into the train at Antonito. You got me pardner. :bigboss:

It's a mystery Herb. I'm going to try one more time without cutting in the brake pipe and see where that gets me. What version of OR are you running?

Duplicating my run to see what happens. Been a long time and quite a few OR versions since I ran it.

OK, mission accomplished. Train set out on two sidings, coal and water taken then each engine ran separately out to their respective cuts and put all together using multiple Alt-F9s.

But for each switch it is necessary to set hand brakes before making the switch. Tenders are particularly jumpy and even more so the "Plow Car" that is attached to the front of my 487! So the trick is to always set hand brakes before making an Alt-F9 jump.

I wonder if it would help to add a handbrake to the tender .wag?

Both the 489 and 491 that I'm running have handbrakes on the tender. I wrote those .eng files so yours should have them too.

I see that now. I think I may have found the issue, that darn crew car is in my consist. I see you have it added as a FA in your updated .eng file. Let me kick that out and see what happens.

Yeah, if you're only running OR you can add a new FA for the crew and get rid of those things.
