Open Rails can be on any drive. I have mine on F: with routes and some more routes on an SSD drive G: as you can use the options/content menu to add different installations, whatever drive they are on.

I also stay well clear of any Program Files folders if using the C drive.

A little off topic but it seems a reasonable place to ask. I understand that documentation is installed with the installer but where to? I cannot find it. Or has it been deleted with an update?

The installer creates an "Open Rails Manual" shortcut for you, but you can find all the included documentation in the "Documentation" folder inside the install (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Open Rails\Documentation").

James, no icon or "\Program Files (x86)\Open Rails\Documentation" folder was created in my install.

To install OpenRails to allow it to independently access different routes (ie like MSTS mini routes) this is what I do.

This assumes you are using an existing MSTS with MIniroutes.

Install OR to what ever position one is happy with, say

Games/OpenRails_V1.0

For each separate route/section you wish create a directory

Below each of these create the directories TRAINS, ROUTES, GLOBAL and SOUND
so you end up with the durectory structure

Games
|-- OpenRails_V1.0
|-- openrails_760
| |-- GLOBAL
| |-- ROUTES
| |-- SOUND
| `-- TRAINS
|-- openrails_NG
| |-- GLOBAL
| |-- ROUTES
| |-- SOUND
| |-- TRAINS
| `-- tmp
|-- openrails_SOB
| |-- GLOBAL
| |-- ROUTES
| |-- TRAINS
| `-- original_data
|-- openrails_Scotish_Central
|-- GLOBAL
|-- ROUTES
|-- SOUND
`-- TRAINS

Copy the basic GLOBAL and SOUND from the existing MSTS install, I actual keep a basic install JUST for this, see below.
Then copy or install the required data to the apropriate Directory.

When running OR just point it at the required Directory,
Note: although its not shown in the above listing I have a basic MSTS install directory with all required items in it (such as Newroads, UKfine scale Xtracks etc in. This is used as a SOURCE of files for any new route I wish to have on its own, ie I never use it directly in the train sim.

I have been doing this for some time makes things a good deal easier.

You left off the e.g. He said "such as". He did not say "exactly." Look for a \Documentation subfolder whereever you installed Open Rails to. And the Shortcut was created in the OR folder within the Start Menu with the other shortcuts.

Charles, I have no "Documentation" folder anywhere on the drive I installed Open Rails on and no documentation icon in the folder where the Open Rails icon resides.

I got mine when I installed from the 25 MB download at http://www.openrails...wnload/program/ . Did you download the Installer (on the left of the page) or the Executables on the right? Only the installer included the documentation.

I used the installer on the left of the page. In fact I downloaded it very soon after it was made available.

I see in a post from James on 22 May that version 1.0 was replaced by 1.0.1. From the time installed, I installed 1.0 not 1.0.1. Would this have caused a problem with the documentation?

If so, can I now install 1.0.1 over 1.0 without causing any problems?

Far as I know, yes you can. Just point it to the same folder and allow overwrites, or delete the existing content and run the new installer.
