What I miss on the odometer are two things:
- the possibility of erase it from the screen immediately, without waiting that it arrives at 0;
- a less intrusive position of it: as this should reproduce a real life feature, i don' think real life locos have it in the middle of the windshield :p ; as others said, also having the possibility to drag it could be a way to avoid that.

If you like long trains , have a look at this one.
Longest heaviest train in the world, in Australias Pilbara carrying Iron Ore.
7 Kms long, weighing in at 100000 tonnes.

In such a case, I wouldn't like to have the odometer in the middle of the screen for minutes :p

Hi Folks,
As previous posts were asking for personal preference - I'm much happier now not having it visible all the time - thanks... As someone who seldom used it - I did find the constantly changing numbers a distraction... I have found myself accidentally hitting the key to start it now - and - it would be nice to be able to stop it as desired as well...
Regards,
Scott

For correct functionality 3 keyboard functions would be needed:
1. Show/hide
2. Reset
3. Change counting direction (upwards/downwards)

Just for clarification, is doesn't change the direction in world depending on the loco direction lever, unless it is reseted again.
I've attempted to implement all of this in X2985 using Shift-Z for show/hide, Control-Z for reset (as before) and Shift-Control-Z for change counting direction.
I'm not sure I got it all right regarding train direction and the counting direction, as I've only had your descriptions to go on, but it seems to make sense. Reverse points are still screwing it up though, because they alter Train.DistanceTravelledM, but I did manage to add save/resume and replay support.

Looks good, James!
Here is a proposed entry for the Manual: (Edited)
"The odometer display appears in the centre of the main window, toggled on or off by the keys Shift+Z.
The direction of the count is toggled by the keys Shift+Ctrl+Z, and the odometer is reset or initialized by Ctrl+Z.
When set for counting down, it is initialized to the total length of the train in feet. As the train moves, the odometer counts down, reaching zero when the train has moved its length. When set for counting up, it resets to zero, and measures the train’s total movement.
For example, if the odometer is set for counting down and you click Ctrl+Z as the front of the train passes a location, then when it reaches zero you will know, without switching views, that the other end of the train has just reached the same point, e.g. the entrance to a siding, etc. "
Cheers,
Sid

All sounds good, except here you might want to say "meters or feet" or not mention a unit, since it uses the same units as the Track Monitor, which is configured in the route data.
