It won't let me put a check mark there.

Oddly enough, when I get to that page, I actually cannot uncheck my e-mail address. There is no choice offered at all - it's firmly fixed. I was trying to check that if I unchecked my email I perhaps would get the same error, but I can't even try that!

Rob Roeterdink

Dave,

did you ever use this e-mail address : dave.nelson@240gl.org?
A Dave-Nelson is registered in Launchpad with that email address. Perhaps thats the problem.

Then, it looks like either the Launchpad or Ubuntu system has trouble with the registration of two Dave Nelsons.
That's the only thing I can think of on what is happening here.

I am still unable to log in.

I received a reply from Launchpad to my request for help. Took them only 34 days. They said ask Ubuntu.

Everything changes when Ubuntu took over. What I go to LaunchPad and click on Report a bug, I get this:

So I didn't spot this before, and I don't think you've mentioned this, but did you go look at "My Account" on this screen? It gives me a screen like this:

http://james-ross.co.uk/temp/lp_1.png

Clicking "Manage email addresses" shows me:

http://james-ross.co.uk/temp/lp_2.png

Now, I wonder if you've never verified your email address with this system? If it's not verified, I'd certainly try verifying it and ensure it shows up here as verified as preferred - only my preferred email address is listed in the drop-down on the first screen.

This is so GD weird.

I followed your instructions. When I clicked on "My account" the page showing your second image appeared for a second and then changed to Bad Bot Go Away. Because I saw the real page for that moment I backed up and repeated "My account" and in the brief moment page two was visible I managed to click on "Manage E-mail Address". The third page appears... my normal e-mail had been verified but since I was there I thought to add a second, which I did. The confirmation e-mail arrived and I completed the verification process. This returned me to page two... I selected the Launchpad.net link, saw it's page, clicked on "Log in" and that returned me to page one.

I am unable to click on the box next to my e-ail address. I enter the password, "click yes, log me in" and AGAIN am presented with "Bad Bot Go Away".

It is nuts... my name is already displayed on the page... both the original e-mail address and the new one are present.

WTF???

Dave,

Interesting.
When I did a search on "Dave Nelson" at launchpad some time ago, I got a different Dave Nelson (see post #13).
But when I do the same search now, I get a more familiar e-mail reference.
Still seems to me that the system is confused by the fact that there are two different "Dave Nelson" trying to get access to the system. Obviously your e-mails do not match that of the 'other' Dave Nelson, which makes the system think you are a fake.
Traces of the 'other' Dave Nelson are still around in the shape of bug reports which have nothing to do with OR.

Regards,
Rob Roeterdink

Following your thoughts Rob I went in and changed my name to David H. Nelson, did save changes. Ubunto now recognizes me with that name. However, when I go over to Launchpad and click on log in (returning to the Ubunto page) it says Launchpad is asking for info to share... my name is checked... I click "Yes Log me in" and again get the Bad bot message.

Could it be a browser problerm? I use Firefox.
