Our personal opinions may not matter legally but they do influence our actions and those of others. In my opinion reverse engineering is obviously legal with no doubt. So I intend to act on my opinion and reverse engineer the .igs and GeoPcDx formats and publish my results. I also intend to make and perhaps sell tools to convert between .s, .igs and GeoPcDx files.
Whether Open Rails makes use of this information is up to management and will likely be guided by their opinions as I doubt we have the budget to afford to hire an attorney for their opinion.

Hmmm, that was one of the reasons of why I was saying to export only to .igs, as .geopcdx is part of Dovetail Games or Train Simulator... Export plugins were made too by Dovetail Games? If so, probably we could readapt the old GMAX plugins to work with 3dsmax?

If open rails had the ability to read content from other simulators it would not actually be making use of that content, nor distributing it. Therefor legally it seems clear that it would be in the clear.
However the objective here is probably to avoid being sued rather than simply to be legally correct. People sue regardless of the actual merit of their suit.

You can see a similar control system in TS2015 for some german trains.
It is called AFB (Cruise control).
If you have a speed limit anywhere, just lower the cruising speed. It does maintain the desired speed.

Just because it is just an important feature to me:
Did anyone found another way to set up the train speed? It dont has to be a full working cruise control, but at least an script that keeps the train at the adjusted speed.

There is no other way, and I hope there will not be a half-capable solution implemented, because that would minimize the chance for a real solution. Please be patient, Matej is working on it.
