Eng Parameter: ORTSBrakePipeTimeFactor ( 0.00312 ) has a good slow gradual speed the higher the number the slow it is when it comes to opening the angle cock but it also slows application to the rear an releasing. May there be a parameter or option worked out like this feature except for angle cock turning speeds would be helpful. Or shall one like me an others mess with my wag files.

Has the bug of no penalty display been worked out?

Peter, did you do the upgrade that put the F7/F9 car numbers from MSTS in the car number column? That's a super addition! :D

Hi-
I'm asking again - am I missing something ?
Is there anywhere I can find something about the effect of the brake retainers in OR ? I can't seem to detect the effect - I seem to remember others reporting earlier in this topic that they used them successfully.
I thought that something might show up in the F5 Braking display.

Thanks,
Sid.

Yes, they show up in the F5 brake HUD. If retainer is configured for a car in its wag, its state will appear in the car's line, like e.g. RV EX, which means retainer valve is at "exhaust" position.

Thanks Peter,
That's what I would have expected. But I don't see that, just the line in the top part of the F5 HUD that says "Retainers 25% Low Pressure", etc.
What do you mean by "if retainer is configured for a car" ? Do you have to modify the .wag file for it to work? I am using X2770.

Thanks,
Sid.

It must be in the brake equipment list, e.g.:
BrakeEquipmentType( "Handbrake, Triple_valve, Auxilary_reservoir, Emergency_brake_reservoir, Retainer_4_position" )

Curiouser and curiouser!
If I compile my own copy of X2770 from the svn Trunk source, the retainers work fine, but in the downloaded X2770 they do not.
So there may be a compiler flag that is not set in the download version?

Further strange results: (Edited to report on effect of adding the "Retainer" string to some of the wagons.)
1. The consist that I am using uses the default MSTS "US...wag" files, which do not have the "Retainer_4_position" definition, but the retainers work fine with my locally compiled version of X2770.
2. The F5 Brake HUD line in this case shows retained pressure of 20 PSI in the BC for every other car as expected for "50% Low Pressure" setting, but no "RV" column.
3. If I add the "Retainer_4_Position" to some of the the .wag files, the extra "RV" string appears in the F5 HUD, but they no longer show a value in the BC pressure.

There is nothing remarkable in the log file (attached).
I have attached a screen capture of the F5 HUD for the case where there are no "Retainer_4_Position" entries in the .wag file .

Cheers,
Sid.

You might not have a clean check-out, that's why your own compile behave differently. You may ask for "check for modifications" to see what files differ in your personal copy.

Peter - I just edited my message to report on what happened when I added the "Retainer" string. It's interesting that the old wagon files "worked" without any mods. I got good retarding on the Bison hill in Marias Pass.

Thanks,
Sid.
