This is the mecanically correct point for the pivot of a bissel.

Regards

I am well aware of that being the prototypically correct pivot point on this engine, and others like it. I modeled the center on the axle in this case to play it safe you could say, after seeing how pivot placement could cause strange things to happen on other models - but then again that was on things like the crew cars and other unusual cases, so perhaps that's not an issue in this case once the issues are resolved :clapping:

Putting the pivot in the axle impedes tracking.
In my experience, with steamers, articulated, and locos with three and four trucks, and cars vith a single axle ( Talgo ), if the model is mecanically correct, OR tracks correctly.

Regards.

Well, I decided to do a little test, running in version 2511 where I shifted the pivot point of the rear truck forward to the prototypical location and see what would happen. I'm pleased to say this did indeed work very well - so, this would appear to be another bit of old "MSTS legacy thinking" that I can put out of my mind for future OR intended engines that I model :clapping:

I am glad it worked out because its the special hacks that seems to be causing problems at the moment. As long as the model follows the basic structure such as Bogie1/Wheels1,2,3 & Bogie2/Wheels1,2,3, there are no issues. There is still much work to do, but we will get there.

I believe I may have discovered the problem. This will take a little time to properly fix.

In my opinion there are two things laking:

Lateral displacement system for three and four bogies locos, as in the real word.

A more complex structure:

Main - Bogie1 - Bogie11 - Wheel110
I I I - Wheel111
I I
I I - Bogie12 - Wheel121
I I - Wheel122
I
I - Bogie2 - Bogie21 - Whee210
i i - Wheel211
I
I - Bogie22 -. Wheel221
I _ Wheel222

For locos like UP turbines and two diesels

A similar one for Mallets.

To avoid to break locos in two sections.

Regards.

I hope to have the fix committed shortly. I was unaware of the issues reported above, but after running the default class 50, the issue reported above has been fixed. I am hoping this will cover the other items that were reported to have the same issue.

Here is a question, what is the max number of bogies that MSTS can work with? I have seen models where one bogie entry is created and a second is created under that. What would be the purpose of this? Currently, OR is only installing 2 bogies so I am not sure what will happen if OR installs more than 2 bogies.

This is a Baldwin turbine prototype in an imaginary PRR livery
OR supports easily four bogies, but does not track very well because there is not an lateral displacement mechanism.

MSTS supports three bogies with three wheelsets per bogie. This has always been a limitation where 4 or more bogies are involved or more than three wheelsets per bogie. The model ends up being broken down into several sections and the fourth wheelset is either not animated or is manually animated using the steam driver naming.
