Well, then, the obvious first: When doing my above experiment, I forgot to use the right version of ORTS: The latest version available on the experimental release page of the ORTS official site does NOT include the feature. Go to http://james-ross.co...jects/or/builds and download the topmost file.

Then try again.

Next thing is all guesswork, if the above doesn´t help: Try specifying another font in between the quotes "", e.g. "Verdana". If you see the font change, you just have specified at size that is too large.

If you don´t see the font changed, it´s something about ORTS, that I can´t help with...

Cheers, Markus

Strange, even if I have Windows 7 I don't have this font. There are many available on the net, but there also many dangerous sites offering free font downloads, so I'll have to check carefully.

I wonder if it's a licensing issue on versions of Windows in different countries? Mine is clearly a Microsoft version according to the file properties, and digitally signed. Interesting! I wonder what Microsoft product installed it? Of Microsoft products, I'm running Windows 7, Office 2007, MSTS, MS Flight Simulator 2004 (FS9), XNA Studio 3.1 and I had Visual C# 2008 Express (changing to a newer version now, to read and understand project files). One of those had to have dropped in the font... I'm wondering if it was Flight Simulator -- it uses LED-segment displays on cockpit panels.

My patch can't go further to family names, because the family name is what is available within the OR method I'm calling.

So for anyone wondering, it will always pick the default or "regular" typeface in a font family. Handy to know, since some families have some significant variations in them.

The origin of the Quartz font is interesting. It could really be useful for LED-segment displays, but if it's not a Windows default font, then it won't work for everyone -- which makes it more challenging for cab designers who might want to develop and distribute an OR-custom cab using special fonts. We'll have to make sure to stick with standard Windows fonts or make sure to include or recommend safe free/open-source fonts. (Open Font Library and Google Fonts come to mind...)

Edit... I looked on my Win7 laptop, which was installed using the same disk as my Win7 desktop -- no Quartz MS. Virtually all the same software, but no MS Flight Simulator. It must have been dropped on the desktop PC by the MS Flight Simulator installer. So not everyone will have this font... But an LED segment font is useful to have. It works well on a lot of displays other than screens -- good for LED and LCD digital instruments and clocks.

Thanks to all. In fact I don't have MSFS neither Office 2007 in my (regularly licensed) Windows 7. I will try to find such a font in a regular way on the Internet trying to avoid adware and malware sites (which is not simple for font providing sites). Does someone know a trusted one?

The Open Font Library has Segment14. There are a couple of pay-for fonts from Monotype too (LCD and PIXsymbols LCD).

This official MS page could help finding out which font came with what.

Personally, I never had MSFS installedo n my Machine, so that can´t be where the font came from... Maybe simply about different versions of Win7, and additionally in different countries?

:) James and Howky for the links. Quite a few interesting items there :good:

Cheers, Markus

I have both FS9 and FSX installed, but no Quartz MS font. They both have their own font libraries, and both use quartz.ttf
