MSTS has a 30 character limit for the file and folder names used for stock and consists. What is the situation with OR?

I don't believe there are any inherent limits like this in MSTS; the underlying OS functions accept up to 260 character file paths (whole thing including drive) IIRC and each component (directory or file name) can itself be up to 255 characters.

James, your first sentence is not clear to me. Are you disagreeing that there is such a limit in MSTS or confirming that there is no similar limit on OR?

What I know is that the alias paths and other strings defined in an .eng file may not exceed 30 characters in length. This can lead to errors or crashes if for example a shape file alias (very unlikely to happen, though) is done that way. On other strings, such as the Name () parameter, it is more or less unimportant how long the given string is: Any superfluos characters will be cut.

My experience agrees with James with the exception of 256 characters instead of 255.

I can confirm -having experienced this often- that too long file name paths within .sms files aren't recognized by MSTS.
