Hi there
On many of my MSTS Trains
The Red notch on the Brake Gauge charges very slowly
How can I make it faster
Thanks

This is OpenRails BTW

You can change the brake recharge rate--click on options, select "general" and alter the number under "Brake Charging Rate". Should be 21 PSI / s by default.

Will they release faster if I set it to 100 or so?

Patience, Grasshopper*, it takes time to puff up all the brakeline. :thumbup3: Of course it depends on how length your train is, too.

I was talking to a CP engineer in August. I asked him about how long would it take to pump up the brakes on a 100 car coal train. He said it would take about 5 minutes, longer if it was cold. He went on to say that the passenger trains release almost right away due to the difference in design of the systems.

My trains don't have air brakes. They 're mechanical and I'd like to release them as fast as possible. :thumbup3:

It would take a bit of time to release handbrakes. And more manpower as well. The point is that the release rate of airbrakes on msts freight trains is highly unrealistic. In Open Rails you can use the "Shift / " to release them without waiting.

I have my Brake Charging Rate at 330 PSI. Takes under a minute for a 30 car train to fully release.

As I said in my above post Shift + / will release the brakes instantaneously..
