- hmmm but how to lock it when the switching is done and the player is ready to move on?

One of the comments I got on STMFC was that sometimes a timer kicks off after the points are returned to their normal position and when that time is up the electric lock is automatically locked again. He said 5 minutes was allowed but perhaps there is some variation allowed to each situation.

Seems to me a manual switch could have three different state variables.... Position, for which way it's pointing, Locked, for if it's unlocked or not, and Permission, for if the dispatcher has granted it the ability to change state (Position and/or Locked). Automatic switches could have hree state variables too... Position, and Mode for auto/manual operation, and Permission again for whether the dispatcher allows the switch to change modes.

And spring switches? If there were separate state variables for facing and trailing, this approach might work.

The direction of the movement of the consist would take care of that without requiring a new data field.

Fair enough - assuming that the problem of snapping the consist path gets fixed when the lead engine crosses the points:

Does OR have that problem? I haven't seen it.

Yes, OR does have that problem. I have experienced it a number of times. I was very surprised to see it in OR.
