* Do the AI trains stop at a switch not lined for their path?
* If yes to the above, will it resume once the offending switch is lined properly?
* Will AI respond to reverse points placed in their path?

* Does the player engine coupling onto an AI kill the "AI" part? Thus, once the player cuts away the AI coasts to a stop. Or, in OR will the AI resume its predetermined path?

Sorry, don't know the answers. I've only been involved in activities for the player and not had anything to do with AI (yet).

I would be surprised if Rob Roeter can't answer your questions, though

I was involved in work on the activities part of OR and I thought they were pretty much complete.

Where do you think they still fall short?

I find activities are difficult to test in v0.7 as speed limits are not imposed and the safeworking system does not work correctly. These have prevented any meaningfull testing to take place, certainly on the activities I have tried as AI trains simply do not behave correctly.

We need the community for feedback as well. This next release will be the best we've done so far and is a working running simulator.
Don't be a party pooper, Fred. Join in the fun.

Yeah, Cmon and join the fun. I'll certainly be using ORTS exclusively. Now we can hear the interesting sound of diesel engines starting up and shutting down. A rather weird sound compared to my diesel pickup.

Hi Chris!

I don't currently have OR installed on this machine... so drawing from memory:

* Do the AI trains stop at a switch not lined for their path?

* If yes to the above, will it resume once the offending switch is lined properly?

* Will AI respond to reverse points placed in their path?

* Will AI wait at meet points as defined by the activity creator?

* Does the player engine coupling onto an AI kill the "AI" part? Thus, once the player cuts away the AI coasts to a stop. Or, in OR will the AI resume its predetermined path? (MSTS w/Bin will NOT do this... so this would be an added-value factor OR would bring.)

I typically enjoy "dark territory" routes (no signals), so the above are very important to me in order to be able to run Time Table trains as well as allowing the Player the ability to keep AI traffic moving that snarls up (by lining the correct switches).

Of course, in the "DREAM MODE", I would hope that "someday" OR will have AI that can set out/pick up cars and otherwise interact with the Player train.

Thanks for your response!

Ya know, Andre, you could grab the latest build and test all this for yourself and leave feedback. :oldstry: After all, you are on the team, too. ;)

Ouch! ;) I don't think he saw that one coming. ;) The current version is pretty good too. I wonder when the next version will come out.

Hi Rick:

Not really. I would need to download and install the supporting programs OR needs, then do the same with OR, etc. Further, I'm not convinced my ancient machine will handle the programs OR requires nor the additional resource needs.

Lastly, I'm working around 50 or more hours per week right now and sometimes weekends. Our weekends are committed to church, trips to NW AR to tend/visit aging/frail parents (my wife's) along with trying to fit in some time to get caught up on all the other stuff that didn't get done during the work week. Amid these hectic weekends, we also try to fit in a bit of time every now and then to see our daugther and grand daugther, too. When we DON'T have a committment on Saturday... that's when the wife and I try to go do something together. Thus, what little time I have to relax, I spend relaxing as I see fit instead of being heavily involved in MSTS/simming/beta testing.

Frankly, I don't foresee a let-up in our lifestyle for a while yet. It's that time in our life cycle that we have things we must do. It is what it is.
