...or you can change the weather to "clear" by Alt+P (see key assignments) and try to run the train.

I just tested the activity. If the train brakes are fully released, it's easy to start the train with Run 2 (25%) or Run 3 (38%) on the throttle without approaching slipping. A shortcut to fully release train brakes is SHIFT + Question Mark/Slash button, or wait till the brakes are fully charged.
