Hi OR TEAM

I've seen all kinds of questions posted here but have not seen to many from equipment modelers. Although I model both steam and diesel locomotives my main interest is steam. Would it be possible to have a greater number of animations and animation sequences such as more than 3 rotating axles per bogie or more rod motions than we now have with MSTS. It would also be nice to have wipers with steam locomotives. I was thinking today that my new air compressor would look so neat if it's rods were moving up and down and a little steam leaking from around the packing glands. Maybe I'm dreaming to much. Am I?

Allen,
You are dreaming, but it will be reality before you know it. As we move forward with ORTS, you will be able to define almost as many animations as you want - within reason. I believe that OR will support more animations today, that MSTS will not, but I haven't given it a try. ORTS will allow a much greater number of effects beyond the StackFX, CylindersFX1, CylindersFX2, WhistleFX, SafetyValveFX current allowed by MSTS1 steam engines. Give us about another month and we'll have more details to announce on this topic.

Chris

This is great news. I dreamed and now it will be reality. That was quick. LOL! Seriously. This is great news for all the builders out here. Now all we need are some more steam locomotive builders.

This IS great news, will these animations be user controllable, ie some linked to a keypress and some based on a condition with in the train, ie high temp or something ?

As I said, we'll be announcing more in about 1 month.

All I want is plugin defined animations... THAT would be handy!

Being able to define what a key press animates and such by a plugin which You or I could make. That would be great. As well as about 1,000,000,000 possible rod animations :pleasantry:

As to writing plugins. I don't know anything about writing those or will probably never know. It's an age thing. Not enough time left to do all the other things I want to do.

As to animations. 30 or so would do. The Shay I'm working on has 18 rod motions plus 5 wheel motions in just the engine and drive train plus the bogies and drive wheels. So 30 rod motions would do for me. That and the ability to have more than 3 rotating wheels per bogie and also more than 2 bogies per unit as with spanned bolster applications like the UP turbines. I always liked the big veranda turbines.
