Here's almost the prototype but standard gauge, and a great lumber co. name!

That's what I like about this whimsical unit -- looks like it was built out of a donkey engine and some assorted junk:

I can't recall where I found it (I think it was a German site).

Judging by the oversized bucket and oilcan, it might have originally been for one of those odd-scaled European MSTS routes. I know I added the crew and the wood textures.

Hi guys,

the engine you can download here: schmalspursim.de

On this site there is a plenty of narrow gauge stuff and two great german narrow gauge routes.

Enjoy and have fun.

Greetings
Arnold

Good guess, it is a crane of sorts, built on a Shay running gear. It was in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island back in 1968 that I ran across the beast. Crown Zellerbach had a log dump here. This gizmo ran on the 2nd back track and was used to unload the log flats on the 1st track. You can see the "brow log", timbers in this case, on the far left. These were to protect the bank/dock and take the abuse of the logs tipping off and into the water. I wish I'd seen it in operation, so I'd know how it worked exactly!

Hi,

Here is that lill' German engine again. She is kind of weak on power but at least can manage a supply flat.

Coming off the Sumpter main onto the OLC branch line.

Chugging up the first grade on the OLC branch.

Enjoy,

Homely? I don't see anything homely about it... That thing is just down right dirt-ugly. :cheers3:
It would make for an interesting model, though...

Ode to a beast of burdon

T'was a crittur so ugly you wanted to laugh,
So rough and so ready, it really looked daft,
There were bits this and that,
And assorted mechanical tat,
There was a touch of a riot about its overall craft.

It sat there alone on a spur in the yard,
Subject to glances, surprised and hard,
But it was a faithful beast of work,
When push came to shove, it didn't shirk,
I suppose, one day, they'll mark its card.

And the faithful ol' crittur will be gone from the yard.

Algernon.
