What's the smokebox diameter of that L-9, Steve, I'll shrink that front end to suit.

That's Jonatan's model that I reskined as an L-7. I noticed it was about 6 or 8" too big, I'll do it in SFM, just didn't get around to it yet.

Bits and pieces of progress. I didn't like the available grass, including the one I have in the file library, grassblock. So, being incredibly brave and all, I made new textures that can replace the ones included in that file. I'm still testing, but they are 1024 (433Kb)and 2048 (2015Kb) sizes and look a lot better. Once I've finished fiddling with them I'll add them to the file library as an upgrade package. The ace names will be the same as those in the existing file, so they will just overwrite them.

I've also started to flesh out the scenery around the shop and yard a bit. It'll be interesting to see if a high poly train will run, once I'm done.

One of these days, I'll have to start laying track to the mountains and woods.

Hi Steve,

That looks great! And I spot my 0-6-0, you did a good job on that. That... 2-6-2ST? looks good too. Is it one of Jon Davis?

Can only agree with the others about the textures.

Hi Steve!

Ever the experimenter, you are indeed producing a superb looking scene. Once you're finished with that area, it will be very interesting to see how resource effective it will be in the operational realm (i.e. with AI and static consists in place).

You go, guy! :wheelchair:

Hey Andre,

Yeah, I like experimenting! Since working heavily in Photoshop for the last several years, doing artwork on the computer has become pretty easy. I do use a large drawing tablet for most of the work, massive improvement over a mouse.

Early stages of a log pond, this is the 4096 version, I'm doing a half size 2048 too. Not sure which I'll end up using. I did this all with layers, bottom, bark and debris, banks, water, vegetation. I still have to add a few sunken logs to the debris layer, then logs at the surface. Lastly, I'll use a screenshot from the dump area to make reflection of the mill and other features, with just a hint of detail.

I've yet to paint the outlet stream, it looks a bit dry and peters out. The river is just behind the camera in this shot, I set this north south, so I could make the banks sit on terrain lines, thus the banks could be raised without bumping up the water surface.

I think I'll keep a separate tile of this, with less bark debris and no logs, for other spots. The mud I made will be perfect for the intertidal zones along the river too! Just think, a wildlife paradise, estuary with no oil spill!

Continuing work on the log pond. I've had to improvise and cobble together a log dump. I'm still using the buildings we used for the mill on the SVRy route, although I'm thinking of re-doing the textures. Still to come are logs in the pond.

I tried out the 2048 ace of the pond, and it doesn't look too bad, but lacks the crisp detail I crave. So, I put back the 4096.

Next terrtex will be that on which the mill sits.

I got to looking at the mill building in the picture above, one that Jon Davis made for the Sumpter line. I re-textured it here, but thought, it's got interior framing and walls, along with an alpha channel. I think with a bit of creative re-sizing in SFM and new textures, it could become an engine house. The clerestory is a separate model. I suppose, technically I'm a cripple, as I don't do 3d modeling, but I try not to let it limit me too much!

There is a crude carriage, saw, and roller conveyor on the floor, between the 1st and 2nd stall, but the building is tall enough to sink most of that into the ground, I covered the top of the saw with a large workbench. It makes a nice 3 stall, short line, engine house!

I've been fiddling a bit with forestation around the yard, and got the river in too. Things have been extra wet here this spring, everything's green!

Jon have you thought about uploading any of your beauties to Elva's tower. I really like that mike in the above scene. Is it available anywhere else for download? These are remarkable works of art.

Excellent work, Steve!

Very ingenious use of the Sumpter mill -- something similar might well appear on the Canada Atlantic. If so, please remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery :sign_thanks: .
