I'm starting a new logging line, loosely based on my first serious model RR, the Green Cr. and Defiance. I'm still tweaking the yard terrtex tiles, getting the beauty bark, bark chunks "look" on the inbound log train tracks. This is a 4096x4096 pixel ace that will hold a lot of detail, so there will also be assorted clutter/trash/litter all over, especially around the engine house and shop.

There will be an interchange with a the Northern Pacific, mountain logging branches through a deep canyon, and a port, all circa 1925 or so. I may, in time, throw in a narrow gauge mining line as well, but am somewhat relectant, without ScaleRail in 3' gauge.

This is going to be my personal model railroad, so I doubt I will ever release it. I may upload some of the more generic, high res terrtex aces and also some of the custom trees though.

Hi'ya Steve, I'm sure people would like to play in the woods. Those great textures add so much detail to the scene.

Cheers Bazza

Steve:

Great to see you modeling and enjoying route creation again!

Very nice looking work. Those large terrtexes are very interesting.

You could almost model the engineer's chaw spit on that terrtex ;) Great work, there, my friend. I can't wait to see what you do around the engine house and rip tracks.

looks very nice. always good to hear of another line coming into existence and that is one of my favorite time periods, for your port i have seen some period ships from that era that might make good additions, some on the Eretrea NG line from North Afrika and of course some fine ones by our fellow Tower Inhabitant Capt Bazza.

If your line is in Northern California, then maybe it has some of the tedwoods in it and the old lumber schooners of the "Redwood Coast" could tie up. They had some amazing aspects to their use inculding log chain drops to the ships down below a steep cliff.

Gives a whole new meaning to the warning: "TIMBER!"

The engine house gains a bit of character! The open smokebox is just a photo of exactly that, replacing the original texture, so it's actually on the front, rather than inside, but it looks pretty good if you don't get real close. I may move the static engine back further, lean the smokebox front against the wall, and add lots of work benches and tools. I guess the superheater units must be in another building, as I don't think anybody's made any to lay around the floor.

There's still several tons of clutter to be added!

The smokebox photo is actually from NP ten-wheeler 1364, back when I was involved in the restoration attempt. It was black and white, and I colorized it in Photoshop.

Tim made me a shape for the smokebox front, so I could lean it up against the pilot beam of the engine! I think I may need a track next to the shop, on the right, for misc. equipment, like the tender for the engine being worked on.

I've got a good start on the 2nd terrtex ace for the yard tracks area. Now, both these are in 4096 size. I think I'll use these for the yard and town area, although I may do some of them in 2048's. I just love the look of the ground this way!

And my dirt road to the shop now looks pretty good. I'm quite pleased with the textures for the rip track area. in the background too.
