I did know what Scott posted that starting with "0" was a given. That's mostly been the norm with all the files that have tables or blocks of data in msts and OR ( all the tabs in the ORTS Diesel engine definition start with zero. )

I didn't know that...

I would take anything I said concerning MSTS with a LARGE grain of salt. About the ORTS Diesel Engine definition..yep...all the "tabs" ( short for table I'm assumin' ) start with zero...a null point?

Everything in the sigcfg file starts with 0, as well, so it's not limited to eng/wag files. Total counts should start from 1, though (ex. 14 signal types, numbered 0-13)

Hi guys, So, having got the sounds package to work beautifully in the Donner Pass route, I'm now trying to add it to TS's Seligman Pass. (I notice that the ttype file was empty in all my 5 TrainSimulation routes.) I've added the 3 TrackType entries in the ttype and added the entries in the trk, although I could see that ( 2 ) already appears to be used for forest entries, so I removed those two lines momentarily without success. I'm getting curve sounds when the train is stationary, plus a few random thudding noises. I've attached the ttype and trk files and I'd be very grateful for any help.

Attached File(s)

Here, in the army, they always shout out loud "ZERO IS ALSO A NUMBER", but that's sjut when they want you to have 50 push-ups and you star at "one, two..." :naughty:

Niknak. The forest entrie '2' just applies for clearing the roads and the number between apretsis is the number of meter of clearence.
see here.

The number being the same has in ORTSCurveSwitchSMSNumber is jsut coincidence and there is no harm in it!
Has for the problem itself... i'm at a loss.

Yes I was guessing that wasn't the problem but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Thanks for confirming anyway. I'll keep looking.

Edit : By the way, I believe the example shown in Paragraph 2 of 13.3 of the Open Rails manual won't work as intended. There are 14 entries in the ttype.dat file with the DemoAutoSound entries being the last three, but the .trk file has them allocated to positions 10, 11 and 12.

If you send me the corrected text, I will get the manual changed.

Just tried installing the sound package in TS's Mullan route but I get similar bangs and crashes to those in Seligman.

Hi Niknak,
I've tried adding Carlo's sounds to the ORTS Seligman Sub route and can't get them to work properly. This route seems to use its own switch and rail sounds which are contained in its own SOUND folder. This is why the ttype.dat file contains no entries. Also, there is no global SOUND folder which, for most routes, contains the track sounds listed in the ttype.dat file.

There may be another way to get the DemoAutoSounds to work, but I haven't found it, yet!!

Cheers,
Ged

The DemoAutoSound folder can be in either the global sound folder of the route's sound folder.

Thanks Ged. I was beginning to come to that same conclusion but it's nice to get confirmation. At least I have the sounds working on Donner Pass, which is one of my favourite routes to run.

Thanks for giving me the idea, but it doesn't work for this route! This may be because the ttype.dat file isn't used for the 'normal' track sounds. Adding the three DemoAutoSound entries to the ttype.dat file and adding the three entries to the .trk file, allocating numbers 0, 1 and 2, results in the switch sounds being heard whenever the loco is being driven, irrespective of whether it's over a switch or not! I've tried various combinations, including what I take to be the 0 position sounds (Welded_in.sms & Welded_ex.sms) into the ttype.dat, ahead of the DemoAutoSound entries, and. although it seems to work initially, OR crashes with "index out of range".

I've not included the log because I'm not following the rules - the DemoAutoSound readme indicates that it should be placed in the root SOUND folder.

Cheers,
Ged

slipperman has sent me the changes and they have been submitted to GitHub. Once approved, they will appear in the following Friday update to the Testing version.

Thanks Ged.

By the way, we have a thread called Missing from the Manual. That's the best place to post any errors and corrections you find.

Ged I've delved into the Seligman route sound a little - Seems as if TS have used sound source files placed at every switch. Two things though - Firstly doesn't that mean the switch sound would be there all the time within a certain distance, and secondly I can't actually hear any switch sound at all by these sound sources. Do you hear the switch sounds on your copy of the route?
